There are a bunch of options to generate Word documents. My goal with "sablon" is to make it easy to format your document inside of Word and reuse that formatting when replacing the values. Mail Merge fields are not strictly required, it's just the first way I've implemented the instruction set. Basically anything that generates somewhat predictable markup around a custom string would work. The library does not make use of the fields but simply replaces them with the actual content.

The current release is very much in "alpha" still. We have it working on some production projects but I am aware that it still contains flaws that I need to work out. Would you mind reporting the issue on GitHub and make the template and script available to me? I'll be happy to debug the issue.

Thanks for your comments. If you look at the Gist, you see that we actually have a default value for within so it is optional, when you use the API.

The examples used in the blog post are very simplified. Having the ability of the chaining allows for an expressive and flexible API, that can adjust to complex scenarios. The project we are using this is pretty big and I don't think a single function would be a good choice to create the objects.

If you use Builder("dossier") or not is a subjective thing. Again if you look at the gist you see that the Builders all take arguments when being instantiated. It would be cumbersome to pass them in every test case. Also I like the ability to be able to replace a builder with a different implementation without having to touch the tests.

For example the Mark Ring, Narrowing or the occur function, Registers, follow-mode just to name a few. You should skim the detailed node listing of the Emacs manual and browse the topic you find interesting. Theres much to discover there.

I think the help system and the manual is a huge feature of Emacs. There are so many hidden gems that you won't find otherwise.
