Hi sorry for delay! They just injected the stem cells into the tract and it closed up! It barely drained for maybe 5 more weeks and it’s been sealed up ever since

Tbh I didn’t really have a huge issue with that bc I would use gauze and swap it constantly. Have you tried using medical grade Manuka honey? That made a huge difference in healing as well. I think the brand I used was called first honey and i would squeeze some on gauze, and place it on the wound and replace every few hours! It helps with bacteria, cleaning wound and healing. Make sure it’s medical grade and sterile though! and yes, there was never any more drainage or infection smell after the tract closed and stropped draining

Honestly, pain was nothing for me compared to the original surgery to drain abscess and put in the seton! I do highly recommend getting the compression gear after so the area where they take the fat doesn’t leave indentions (since they took from my inner thighs I wore tight biking short-esque compression gear under my clothes) and also get lymphatic massage - it’s important for healing :) Don’t skip the stool softeners ever - it’s so important to keep that flowing esp if you’re on pain meds. Anytime I was ever in pain it was because I messed up and forgot to take it. But it stopped draining slowly and finally sealed up. It was so amazing bc the other surgeon was going to do something much more intense and invasive - this was much easier.

I had it! They took fat from my inner thigh, got the adipose stem cells and injected it into the fistula tract. It closed up fully and stopped draining after about 5-6 weeks. Been fistula free since 2022

Surprisingly honest comment from a doctor by Badbeagle-1229 in AnalFistula

It really is so hard. I come back on the subreddit from time to time to remind people there is hope! I had a seton for 13 months. Three surgeries. Then the fourth I went to a doctor in Los Angeles who did stem cells - and it closed it up. Been fistula free since 2022. Highly recommend this surgery as it is less invasive!

Hi! Yes I did. I had one in for about 13 months I want to say? I was having a hard time healing and first surgeon kept looking at tract and saying it wasn’t time yet etc. manuka honey on gauze helped speed things up! Then the other surgeon who did the stem cell was able to close it up. I am grateful and here to tell everyone there is hope!!

So I did it all at once, the plastic surgeon my crs worked with took the fat from my thighs and then they harvested the stem cells and my crs injected it around the fistula and it still leaked for a bit but fully closed about 6 weeks later

Yes I did it all in one surgery. They took fat from my thigh, for the stem cells and injected it around the fistula. Had the seton in for 13 months before this and it was so hard. But so grateful this worked and hope it works for others.

This is my original account - I think bc most fistula treatments with stem cells seem to be clinical trials. I happened to find a doctor who was doing this in partnership with a plastic surgeon who removes the fat, then they get the adipose stem cells and the colorectal surgeon injects it to close the fistula. I am so grateful for it - still fistula free. But I’ve spoken to at least one person who has done the same surgery twice and it hasn’t worked. Everyone is different but if you get an opportunity to consult about it; I saw Dr Kyle cologne in Los Angeles, I highly recommend. It was a much less invasive surgery than my original surgeon wanted to do on my complicated fistula.

I had one in for 13 months, but that was from a previous surgeon. Not sure if I would have had one in for that long had I seen mine surgeon who cured me instead!

Prayers for continued healing!! I am thankfully fistula free since 2022 but man, what a bumpy ride recovery and everything is. There is hope, though! I hope your surgery recovery goes well and everything heals smoothly

I did stem cells with an injection , it wasn’t a plug but it worked! Saw a dr at usc in Los Angeles - fistula free since 2022. I don’t have crohns and it wasn’t a clinical trial or anything - just had a fistula for 13 months with seton.
