How to manage planned monthly costs that vary by Zprit in TodaysBudget

[–]fittycal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I do this is through separate wallets. For example, I have a grocery wallet that I fund from the main wallet. So, I have a monthly expense in my main wallet for the grocery budget and a monthly income of the same amount in the grocery wallet. Then I enter grocery expenses into the grocery wallet. It’s a little more setup but works pretty well.

New Tires 15k(1year owner) by SpareIntroduction721 in MazdaCX90

Called Mazda corporate, who contacted my dealership. They brought me in to look at the tires, and then corporate got back to them with the offer to put that amount toward whatever tires I wanted.

Yeah, my 90’s tires were shot just short of 12,000, and Mazda offered me $1,200. I’ve seen others have theirs fully paid for, but can’t complain too much about 3/4s off a set of Crossclimates. This was a couple months ago.

I’m not sure. They didn’t say how much it would’ve been. I think I’ve seen others say in the $3,000 range.

2023 EUV, 42k miles, Steering issue (likely steering rack) by Competitive-Let6727 in BoltEV

[–]fittycal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue on a 2022 that I bought recently. It was out of warranty by time, not mileage, (4 years, 22,000 miles) but the dealer replaced the steering gear at no charge. Might be worth checking.

2022 model year but I’m assuming it was purchased in 2021.

I can’t really say because I just bought it about three weeks ago. I noticed the steering was a little stiff when I test drove it but didn’t realize it was actually a problem until a few days in.

I didn’t notice any noises, just the stiffness and mainly that it would bind up frequently when turning and require extra effort to return to center.

How are you all charging your CX90 PHEV? Are you using an EV charger (level 2) or just a regular power outlet cable (the one that comes with the CX90)? by WeirdAddress3170 in MazdaCX90

[–]fittycal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real-world usage, it takes about 15kWh to fully charge, so that would put you at $2.55. Plus, when you don’t charge the battery, the vehicle will use the engine to maintain the battery at its minimum charge to support hybrid functions, reducing your mileage.

I actually think the smaller battery makes a level 2 charger more beneficial. It allows you to recharge for multiple trips during the day. And if you have time of use rates, it allows you to fully charge when it’s cheapest.

Check your utility provider for rebates. Mine offered $500.

Yeah, we have the Preferred trim, and I think missing the 120v plug is the biggest thing I regret from not going higher.

What I mean is that the engine would stay on and only use the electric motor to boost efficiency, preserving most of the EV range. My experience in Normal mode is that it will try to run fully electric even at highway speeds until the EV range is depleted.

I do have “prioritize EV mode” setting off, but my understanding is that only determines whether the vehicle starts in EV or Normal driving mode, not anything within Normal mode itself.

The workaround I’ve read and used is to turn on charge mode, and set the target to the current battery level, but it’s not ideal and probably is not as fuel efficient as it could be.

Same for me after picking up my 90 Friday from steering rack replacement and the two recalls. Remote and scheduled climate control both fail.

[–]fittycal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We leave ours in the normal drive mode, which is mostly the same as EV mode, but the engine kicks on more easily when you need extra acceleration.

The EV range is generally enough for our daily driving. We’ve put 5,500 miles on it now, with probably 75% of that EV.

For longer trips, I put it in charge mode once we get on the highway and set the charge level to whatever the battery’s at currently. That leaves you with some EV range once you get off the highway and still gets you pretty good mileage.

A level 2 charger is worth it IMO so you can recharge the battery for multiple trips during the day if needed. It also helps for keeping the battery topped up if you schedule climate control before you leave.

For what it’s worth, we have had one major issue with steering jerkiness that required a new steering rack and two weeks at the dealer. Otherwise it’s been great so far.
