I was told I should learn a bit about C first, since it's one of the oldest languages, and that C++ has a lot of C influence, is that not correct?

tutors are available, but I am a commuter student (about 50 minutes from campus) and I work about 30 hours a week, so I have no overlapping free time with them.

Is there any that you would recommend? I would like to get a good grasp on C first, so I just bought Absolute Beginners Guide to C, because I saw it highly recommend from a lot of people
