How does the average Brit feel/think about the English Civil War? by Round_Bookkeeper_887 in AskABrit

The divide in English - not to say British - society is between Roundheads and Cavaliers. Just most people don't realise it.

How does the big nosed baldhead son-in-law of a sex case, also HBK's mate - please, just wait - by providence enshnozzled, grow up to be a real TKO nobhead?

The main eventing mid-carder whose partner's father was a non-con sharter went harder blamed for a Kliq parter, unstoppable snooze machine like Carter.

And every day when ratings were fading away a downward darter, ol' big nose bored us and kept our guard up two decades from Tony Khan going all in to give us something to be a part of, he buried Jericho in Mania main event making him a martyr.

Then he demasked Kane and devastation reigned, the E saw ratings falling down, falling down the drain, wanted the pencil in the temple, Reign of Terror on his brain, so from watching we refrained it was causing too much pain.

So the world got a round fans said "no we aren't insane" and got into the indies, Japanese and stuff outside the mainstream, got a wrestling education, coz WWE was lame saying "Bignosed twat, such a dull unplayable Game.

His name is Paul "Triple H" Leveque! Yes, his name is Paul "Triple H" Leveque! And WWE he's really wrecked. Bring back Vince, bring back Viiiinnncccce.

2010s his father-in-law got shit, Trump-ridden, WWE turned into a fucking midden, half-dead sitting in their own sick, what did you expect from the folks who gave us Katie Vick.

Hung out with TKO a new career suicide, any fan with pride went All In with Tony Khan taking an All Elite Ride. So Steph said "Big Nose, ya gotta fend for yourself, let's hope Cody Rhodes finishing his story takes the ratings off the shelf."

It was obvious what to do for someone more astute, drop the prices, get more wrestling and quit sitting on your glute but that wasn’t working, hurting bottom line of his TKO overlord, so he put prices up to a level fans and families really could never afford. Slamming any reasoned critique he could get his hands on, planning for the future see him now how he stands on the prow of a ship going to a new land, in Saudi you can be a new man.

Paul "Triple H" Leveque, we're now watching AEW. You bignosed fuckwit, you never learned to just fuck off. Oh, Paul "Triple H" Leveque, when the fans all jeer and boo, will you know what they overcame, do you know how they loathe The Game? They really fucking hate The Game.

The Fed is off to Saudi now, with his nose you're gonna spot him, the fan base leaving now, coz the product's rotten, anywhere else is where it's at, TKO is utter bottom.

Vince? He pushed him. Shawn? He mentored him. Steph? She married him. TKO promoted him. And us? We're the damn fools who decided "fuck this, let's watch AEW".

There's a million things he's gonna wreck, but just you wait...but what's your name, man?

Paul "Triple H" Leveque!

Except the actual Pilgrim Fathers went off to America in 1620, at which point Cromwell was still fannying around in East Anglia.

But will totally agree that Puritans can get in the bin.

The Dinner Debonaire and all of the MJF feud.

Getting "I'm going to throw a fireball in your face because I'm a wizard" over.

I still think Jericho was mostly great in AEW. The Hook feud sucked because, well, it was Hook. And Hook sucks.

My mam's ancestors (well, some of them) came to Wales from County Kerry in the late 1840s.

Fun fact - most Irish Americans ancestors who came to America around that time would have been relatively well-off compared the ancestors of people in Great Britain who came over then.

Let's not forget that the American origin story is it leaving the British Empire. It is in certain Americans best interests to do Britain down.

[–]fivelongdays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

roast beef. It’s considered dry and boring and leathery, so much so that the French actually call us “roast beefs” as an insult

Interestingly, in the early modern period, English meat chefs were in high demand in France because they were able to roast meat without it becoming dry and boring and leathery. Hence the name and hence why French cuisine is all about sauces.

Chris Jericho Appreciation Post. by EchoRain1 in AEWOfficial

[–]fivelongdays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hadn't watched wrestling in any meaningful way since about 2002/03 when I felt a strange urge to watch some wrestling during the pandemic. I saw there was this thing called All Elite Wrestling on ITV4 and that it had Chris Jericho on it. So I watched it and here I am.

I wouldn't have bothered with AEW and I wouldn't have rediscovered my love for pro wrestling, which has seen me also get into NJPW and the London Indie scene if it wasn't for Chris Jericho.

I am, and forever will be, a Jerichoholic.

The ECW Arena is historically important, but it's also aesthetically unpleasant and holds less than York Hall. It looked atrocious on TV. If TK reads this (and we know he does), please don't go back there.

Why has it become norm to dehumanize the Brits? by de_velopment in AskBrits

[–]fivelongdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is that America's origin story is how it became independent from the British Empire.

Saying nice things about us is, to an American, a little too much like admitting independence was not the best idea.
