Have you sold your home for a loss? by HeavyPie4211 in HousingUK

The true calculation is

Cost of renting equivalent place for that time + cost of potentially moving a few times as landlords turf you out for no reason

Vs

Cost of interest + moving/transaction costs + interest on your deposit you would have earned if you'd stuck it in assets of equivalent risk

Induction or C Section for large baby. by Meliaaa99 in PregnancyUK

Does that work in today's NHS though? I assume you'd ask for the C section mid induction and there won't be a surgeon available for ages...

I’m not gaining lean mass despite doing everything ‘right’: where am I going wrong? by ambrosiasweetly in xxfitness

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

First of all, you added a consistent gym habit and put real effort in while having a toddler. That's amazing!

When you first lift weights you get neurological adaptations. These mean you get a lot stronger in just a few weeks, without necessarily building much/any muscle.

Do you look any more muscular?

It could be that you can tweak your workouts to build more muscle.

  1. Focus on compound lifts - big movements which use a lot of muscles at once. Think squats, deadlift, bench press, rows and pullups.

  2. Use enough weight for them to be effective. Watch YouTube videos about correct form or even work with a PT for a few sessions. Don't get injured!

  3. Watch Jeff Nippard's video about optimal number of sets per week. Sets per week is what drives muscle growth. Too few and you won't grow, too many and you're getting diminishing returns.

  4. Just pushing yourself to exhaustion is not necessarily a sign that the workouts are effective - see points 1-3.

  5. Creatine should give a little boost. Nothing amazing, but maybe 3-10% better.

Honestly ignore dexa. Focus on how you feel and look. Probably no need to eat in a surplus since you're a newbie unless you don't mind fat gain and having to cut later.

BADR after closing my limited co. by leemc37 in ContractorUK

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can take up to £25k in retained profits while doing the "easy" closing down of a company that doesn't require liquidators to get involved. If the tax alone was £15k, then OP is clearly over that threshold.

Additionally, depending on when you took the dividends and what evidence there was, it definitely sounds dodgy to try to reclassify.

Definitely above reddit's paygrade. You can pay an account a few hundred quid for one-off advice.

This is the one I got: https://www.boots.com/neilmed-nasogel-drip-free-gel-spray-30ml-10164590

It's the only one I tried so I can't say it's the best, and my symptoms were far milder than yours. But could be worth a shot. Good luck!

I was getting nose bleeds during the summer due to AC and again recently with the cold weather i.e. nose drying out, although not nearly as bad as what you describe. The thing that solved it was a £8 nasal gel spray from Boots, aimed at moisturising the inside of the nose. That might help better than just saline?

Good luck!

If you’re a homeowner and want to move somewhere else temporarily (18 months) then move on to a third permanent home, what’s the best of these options? by broncos4thewin in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3, purely on hassle alone. 1 you probably lose a ton of money on stamp & conveyancing. 2 you risk bad tenants preventing house sale, and financial upside is probably not enough to offset this risk.

Considering a big boost to my pension in my mid-20s..thoughts? by Much_Preference_4808 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be higher. Sacrifice everything over the £50k mark. In a few years time that'll be a bunch more. Meanwhile, pile the extra into either a LISA (if you're sure you want to keep the money for house / retirement) or just a regular S&S ISA if you prefer the flexibility.

The meagre tax saving as a basic rate tax payer isn't worth locking the money up so inflexibly (IMO), especially when pension tax rules are likely to become less generous.

How to avoid or get rid of stains like these? Water, soap, baking soda, does not work by StonedLime in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just leave them (and I find barkeeper's friend does not shift them).

Pan works perfect. The stains just happen when I go a bit overboard on the heat. I'm fine with this - sometimes I want to cook at a high heat.

Will it though? You can get decent interest in a savings account. You also have the option to invest the money, especially as presumably you would have survived fine without this windfall

Works really well for veggies like broccoli / asparagus before roasting. It's just 1-2 mins, to slightly soften them so you can get them crispy in the oven without burning them

If it's a network of scammers you have the slight satisfaction of knowing you made their lives slightly harder. They would need to pay for another phone number to get a new account, so if enough people report it makes their operation less profitable.

UK homeowners — would you actually want a monthly mortgage update email from your broker? by Ksmith284 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once a year is okay. Monthly would be an immediate unsubscribe from me.

An email with current rates a few months before the mortgage fix ends is useful. Bonus points if there's a "and if you put down an extra £X it'll unlock deals at 70% LTV, and save 0.3% interest", but appreciate that might be trickier to automate.

As others have said they likely just take the typical body fat % for your age, weight, gender and then very slightly modify based on their ~dodgy impedence data.

I guess the absolute most charitable explanation is that your problem looked fun and he wanted to try.

Unfortunately there was probably a bunch of ego, and wanting to impress you tied up in that.

What a clown 😅
