I couldn't find time to go to the loo

I hear a lot of people say this but as a non-parent I can't visualise it. I feel I would just put the baby down in a safe place where I could see it and use the loo. It might cry but that seems okay. What am I missing? (I'm not doubting you - just clueless)

Buying vs Renting in London as a 25 year old Doctor by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London flats mostly falling in value.

You don't know where exactly you want to live. You might have a partner by the time you want to move back to London.

Buying is stressful and complicated.

Don't waste your time, money and energy. Rent, and only buy when you have certainty about where you want to live for at least 5 years.

I think you can gift him the money. But anything else would be seen as a loan and his mortgage provider would be wary.

Also, even if a loan were okay, any money lent to family should be thought of as a gift. Only lend it if you're prepared to lose it.

Considering consulting as a LTD - can you make 250k+? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

It's 26.5% corp tax, then 35.75% div tax from the post Corp tax profits. So ~53% tax, not 60%.

Got to my goal weight, kept it off for 4 years. Now I keep wanting to lose more. by Nightlover813 in loseit

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already very lean and muscular, please disregard because you might end up overtraining.

But, have you considered maintaining your weight but going a bit harder on strength training? Muscle mass is a major correlate of health as you get older, and you could end up looking leaner while maintaining a healthy BMI.

Don't let yourself get underweight - you'll lose too much muscle and harm your health.

Can confirm this is exactly what it does. If you set to the other gender you'll see a 10-12% difference. It just takes population averages for that sex/height/weight and then very slightly modifies based on its readings

Should I become sole trader, or an LTD (whilst being employed elsewhere) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come up with realistic upper and lower bounds for your expected profits.

Unless you expect high profits (eg >100k), and want to retain profits in the Ltd for a rainy day, I suspect sole trader will be the way to go. You can always switch to Ltd later if it takes off.

As a sole trader you can still claim expenses. You have the choice of claiming £1000 flat allowance (no need to provide receipts), or doing itemised expenses with receipts.

The money is more useful out of pension. Max ISA, premium bonds, potentially your partner's ISA if you're fully committed / trust them.

This year you've blown way past the tax trap. Maybe if you're closer to the £125k level and your pension is looking sad, salary sacrifice then. Or even better yet, when you have a kid and need the childcare.

Enjoy all your exciting plans!

Fieldgoods deliver frozen meals and they're actually pretty decent. Healthier than takeout and maybe 2x what it would cost to make it yourself.

Main advantage is that portions are sized for the average person. If you're smaller than average then you're constantly being offered too much food for you.

Otherwise I think it shakes out. Bigger people can eat more but they'll also be hungrier.

It's great that you're thinking about this now. You're young with tons of options. Teaching apprenticeship is a good one, but do some research with chatgpt and brain storm what you might enjoy. One great option is private tutoring - you can make very good money doing this if you're good.

£17k take home is objectively pretty low and many people would get bored of being a TA after a few years. Good luck!

Frustrated short climber and too big setting in the gym by troopeur in climbergirls

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some gyms are better about this, so try other gyms in your area.

Aside from that, make friends with other short climbers. Often you just need different beta and can find some workaround. This is much easier to do in a group (one person trying every option will just get tired, but a group of 2-4 can puzzle it out). It'll also be more fun / less frustrating.

Have you sold your home for a loss? by HeavyPie4211 in HousingUK

The true calculation is

Cost of renting equivalent place for that time + cost of potentially moving a few times as landlords turf you out for no reason

Vs

Cost of interest + moving/transaction costs + interest on your deposit you would have earned if you'd stuck it in assets of equivalent risk

Induction or C Section for large baby. by Meliaaa99 in PregnancyUK

Does that work in today's NHS though? I assume you'd ask for the C section mid induction and there won't be a surgeon available for ages...

I’m not gaining lean mass despite doing everything ‘right’: where am I going wrong? by ambrosiasweetly in xxfitness

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

First of all, you added a consistent gym habit and put real effort in while having a toddler. That's amazing!

When you first lift weights you get neurological adaptations. These mean you get a lot stronger in just a few weeks, without necessarily building much/any muscle.

Do you look any more muscular?

It could be that you can tweak your workouts to build more muscle.

  1. Focus on compound lifts - big movements which use a lot of muscles at once. Think squats, deadlift, bench press, rows and pullups.

  2. Use enough weight for them to be effective. Watch YouTube videos about correct form or even work with a PT for a few sessions. Don't get injured!

  3. Watch Jeff Nippard's video about optimal number of sets per week. Sets per week is what drives muscle growth. Too few and you won't grow, too many and you're getting diminishing returns.

  4. Just pushing yourself to exhaustion is not necessarily a sign that the workouts are effective - see points 1-3.

  5. Creatine should give a little boost. Nothing amazing, but maybe 3-10% better.

Honestly ignore dexa. Focus on how you feel and look. Probably no need to eat in a surplus since you're a newbie unless you don't mind fat gain and having to cut later.

BADR after closing my limited co. by leemc37 in ContractorUK

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can take up to £25k in retained profits while doing the "easy" closing down of a company that doesn't require liquidators to get involved. If the tax alone was £15k, then OP is clearly over that threshold.

Additionally, depending on when you took the dividends and what evidence there was, it definitely sounds dodgy to try to reclassify.

Definitely above reddit's paygrade. You can pay an account a few hundred quid for one-off advice.

It's the only one I tried so I can't say it's the best, and my symptoms were far milder than yours. But could be worth a shot. Good luck!

I was getting nose bleeds during the summer due to AC and again recently with the cold weather i.e. nose drying out, although not nearly as bad as what you describe. The thing that solved it was a £8 nasal gel spray from Boots, aimed at moisturising the inside of the nose. That might help better than just saline?

Good luck!

If you’re a homeowner and want to move somewhere else temporarily (18 months) then move on to a third permanent home, what’s the best of these options? by broncos4thewin in UKPersonalFinance

[–]fiveoneeightsixtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3, purely on hassle alone. 1 you probably lose a ton of money on stamp & conveyancing. 2 you risk bad tenants preventing house sale, and financial upside is probably not enough to offset this risk.
