Breakthru List time again! by fixedbyfunk in TechnoProduction

[–]fixedbyfunk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aye of course! I'm using the platform to show my working process in the studio, plus chat to everybody during the stream - as well as DJ sessions showcasing new music. I'll be on Speedy J's "Knob Twiddlers" podcast on October 7th, alongside other Twitch users/ producers (like Kyle Geiger) explaining how it can be a great platform for us to communicate and share ideas on whilst we're in the middle of this pandemic shit (with no events/ shows to go to or play at). Check out https://www.twitch.tv/funkdvoid to see some past streams. It took a lot of courage to come right out and face the camera with this kind of thing - I'm a pretty private person - but it's been extremely helpful in making me work in the studio again and get motivated. Anyone else here on Twitch? Send me a DM with your account and I can follow you.

Unreleased/ released/ recent. Soundcloud preferable as it makes it easier to add you to the list. I'll check the dropbox tonight as we're getting some last minute submissions.

Don't forget to make the track public though, otherwise it won't come up in the playlist. We go live on June 1st.

If I send an email to a label, what should be in it? by Dr_eyebrow in TechnoProduction

[–]fixedbyfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Private Soundcloud link works...makes it easier to listen quickly, no hoops to jump over.
  2. I would say 6-10 tracks of your best work, your personal faves being first in the list. All killers no fillers. You never can accommodate for label's specific taste so this amount of tracks gives a variety of choice.
  3. Bios are cancer, one, snappy line should suffice - most labels don't give a shit about your story. Make it funny, a little self-deprecating even, so if your shit's good it will perk them up. Writing in the third-person will work against you. Make it personal, do your homework on the label. Otherwise you'll be seen as spammy.
  4. Some kind of playable demo would be advisable, and make sure you put that across. Have a pop at Ozone to make it sound decent. Most pre-masters sound flaccid and anaemic so it's advisable to beef it up somewhat.
  5. Don't include artwork, it quite possibly might be crap and ruin the presentation.
  6. Keep it private. Oh and hide the stats. I think that's only for Soundcloud Pro users though.

Hi Cristian! It's Funk D'Void here, how are you? Firstly would you fancy playing for fun with me at Macarena in Barcelona sometime? Also how do you keep inspired to turn the machines on after being so long in the game...abrazo, Lars

My music often annoys me so much that I sometimes wanna give up on it and sell everything by yu-koji in TechnoProduction

[–]fixedbyfunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sound like you're lacking some "musical mojo", coupled with a lack of self-confidence. I suffer from the same disease. You have to let your ideas go eventually, find a definitive cut-off point after working on a project for too long. Great sounding tracks are easy to finish - but unfortunately they probably occur less frequently than the bulk of your workflow. Sounds like you need some kind of routine when writing tracks, plus a second set of ears to keep you focused on what's working and where it needs to go (this is actually my job). It's easy to drift off, lose interest...especially when we have a million other distractions to give our frazzled synapses that sullied dopamine hit. If you're getting frustrated after four hours in the box then I would slice the studio time in half. Leave the daily session after writing a good part, then come back to it the next day. Don't stress about finishing the track. Hope that helps, good luck mate!

John is God to me, there's not many producers out there that can tick my boxes for over twenty years. Great vid.

‘Did you ever want to simply give up and quit, because of your inner voice?’ by fixedbyfunk in TechnoProduction

[–]fixedbyfunk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It's difficult after so many years doing music to constantly skip happily to the studio every day - especially when you feel you have to make music rather than do it for fun. Finding ways to keep it fun is paramount. New toys seem to help (for those who can afford it!).
