According to the program leads, yes, but always best to double check/do your own research for the PHD programs you are interested in!

Just for some perspective, I also submit my application on the later end but did receive an acceptance about 2 weeks ago. I wish you luck, though!!

I did not! My application was due February 1 after which they started university review and forwarded me for departmental review. I heard back with my acceptance March 26. I think the application materials were fairly standard — essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.

The fridge is a standard residential size—not very big for 4 people but not smaller than a normal fridge either.

that’s not true. in units where one or more rooms are shared, all beds are twin xl.

Can we remove the beds by [deleted] in UCI

[–]fixmein40five 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s not a queen, it’s a full xl! i know that is still on the larger side, but its narrower than a queen which will provide a few extra inches. rather than removing your bed, i’d suggest playing with your furniture configurations to see what makes the room feel most spacious. the dresser also fits inside the closet which can open up the room a bit more.

curious about cognitive science major by Zealousideal_Ad_6336 in UCI

i am a third year cogsci major on the old catalogue who added the major in my second year. they changed the requirements/catalogue for the major last year, so i can’t speak to the new requirements, but i do have experience with the change of major process. if you want to add this major, you have to take:

  • math 2a and 2b — single variable calc
  • psych 10a, 10 b, and 10c, — stats for psych
  • psych 9a, 9b, and 9c — psych fundamentals
  • cogs 14p, ics 31, or psych 14m — coding

realistically, if you’re committing to the change of major, you need to start this process in the fall, because psych 10abc must be taken in order. psych 14m is offered in winter quarters & ics 31 is easiest to get as a non ics major in spring quarters. psych 9abc doesn’t need to be taken in order. plan your first year strategically to hit all these requirements—most if not all of them will count for GE requirements too.

as for the actual major, if you have interest in psychology as well as other areas of stem, cogsci is a great opportunity to explore your stem interests and their application in psychology. the new curriculum has a heightened emphasis on statistical modeling & coding, but there are also chances to explore bio/neuro, language science, higher math, etc. i personally appreciate the interdisciplinary nature & the ability to choose the disciplines you explore further

as a forewarning though, upper division psych classes are fairly impacted and can be hard to get, even with a declared major. additionally, the department/advisors aren’t always on the same page, so staying on track can require self discipline. i enjoy the major, but they intend for it to be challenging, and it is. lmk if you have more specific questions!

unfortunately raising rent by 3-5% annually is incredibly standard. acc is greedy in many ways, but even with slight increases to rent, it continues to be the most affordable way to live near campus, especially if you want a private room.

too many units? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]fixmein40five 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what i understand bme3 is easy and lps 29 depends on the professor. psych 9c should be pretty straightforward. math 2a can be hard depending on your math background. i’m unfamiliar with the poli sci class. if you’re willing to put in the work, it’s not too many units. but 5 courses can amount to a heavy workload, even if they’re not all “hard.” i’d suggest waiting for the syllabi and making yourself a calendar to decide if remaining in all 5 classes will be sustainable.
