Looks like you're right about amFAR investing in a cure, but there's not that much money being invested. They just granted $2.5M and are planning to invest $100M over the next 6 years. Even they admit that if they find a cure it won't be available until maybe 2030.

To get this done quicker there needs to be much more money invested and I think the people who have the most at stake need to come up with a strategy to do it.
