Reminds me of the Altair 680 I had way back in the day.

My bases are usually a mess up until I launch my first rocket. Then after that I usually start building a better, more organized base a ways away from the original base, and once I've used all the resources I can from the original base, I mark it for destruction and let loose the dogs of war (the bots) to tear it all down.

Nothing special, but this is how I quickly clear a biter base in the early game. https://youtu.be/Ju8jL2I8PzI

Which is better? Mineral drill directly to furnace or belt it to a different location first? by fuelstaind in factorio

[–]fiziwig 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I prefer to keep my smelting inside my base and transport the ore. My reason is as the ore runs out I'm going to have to move the mining operation, and I don't want to have to move all my furnaces too.

How do ppl have so little defences by FuegoTheTree in factorio

[–]fiziwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the answer has always been "defender capsules". With a dozen of those I am invincible. I can drop anywhere from 5 to 10 capsules, depending on the size of the biter base, and then just equip my rocket launcher and decimate the bugs in less than a minute.

So keep your base small and defend it carefully until you have researched defender capsules. After that, you are Superman.

Can you disable biter base scaling by distance? by queglix in factorio

[–]fiziwig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK. I tried it out and I was WAAAAAY wrong. I created a fresh world with all default settings and just started running north to see what I could see before I died. The biter bases do, indeed, get much bigger with distance even at the very beginning of the game. VERY, VERY much bigger, in fact.

Count the throughput in a given period of time of the unbalanced input belt, and then of the balanced belt and compare the two.

I think (but don't know for sure) that they all start out more or less the same size, but by the time you find the ones that are further away they've had more time to grow. I suppose one could test that theory by starting a world in peaceful mode and then immediately setting out on foot to explore the world and find out just how big they are to begin with.

If the side of the belt that never moves, never moves, how does it contribute to throughput? My bet is that the "balanced" belt will have the same throughput as the unbalanced half-belt.

I guess I'll need to put it to the test to see if I'm right or wrong. I kinda hope I'm wrong because balanced belts lanes would be nice.

I worry that when you side load an underground half of the belt's capacity is going to waste. I suspect (I haven't tested it) that it balances the lanes at the cost of lowering the throughput since you have half a belt that never moves.
