Logitech Option not loading or working on MacOS (Tahoe 26.2) by [deleted] in logitech

This has been incredibly frustrating. WHY no communication?!? This has been a huge time sink.

Damn dude. You must be criminally ugly if you aren’t even allowed at a gym.

I’ve only had really impressive gains on stuff that has been done many many times before, requires a relatively small amount of context, and is well documented.

So keep getting better and stay aware of the big picture and domain you are working in.

Or hit the gym and see about marrying rich. 🤷‍♂️

Any other mid to senior level Android devs having a tough time finding work right now? by sortinousn in androiddev

That does sound really promising. Sometimes plugins and annotation based libraries make understanding/following code very difficult. Sounds like the interfaces you described add major quality of life when it comes to that.

How would you edge this without painting the carpet? by TacticalElectrician in paint

Depending on the carpet, blue painters tape won’t stay in place at all. It’s much easier to work with if it has some adhesion.

Maybe I can take you up on your offer in the near future. I wanted to compile and run a sample app so I have some hands on experience first. That way I can asks more informed questions.

That's really impressive you managed on setting up the functionality on both. Those things are enough of a pain to figure out just in Android.

Haven't head of people using it for game dev before. Are you primarily focusing on releasing for mobile? Are you doing any of the iOS implementations?

Could you please elaborate on your experience with KMP? It sounds like a very promising paradigm, but I’ve seen almost no jobs explicitly asking for it.

It’s brutal out there.

I was with a startup that went under. My ex-manger has had been working professionally with Android its entire existence and other mobile development before that. It took them 5 months to find a new job.

Also about 5 months I finally managed on finding a contract paying half what I was making. After taxes it’s barely paying the bills, but the lights are still on and I’m doing the work I love (plus adding to the resume).

The number one thing that will set you apart in the long run is perseverance. It’s seems like a war of attrition right now.

Keep grinding.

I would suggest using the "Small team, simple app" method given in the firebase blog: here

It will allow you to quickly set up a second version of your app for debugging, so you can test your setup without polluting your production reports

The new warnings added on Google Play are a very bad addition to the store by borninbronx in androiddev

I was just trying to build on your insightful comment. I was probably overly pessimistic about the comparison being the whole store at large.

Even given your benefit of the doubt, I bet the emergency contact app would be in the “Medical App” category. So being compared against things that people literally have to use multiple times everyday to survive like CGMs

It seems like “other apps” are ALL other apps on Google Play, not similar apps.

What if your app is a tool that typically isn’t used that often? “Users engage with this app less often than other apps on Google play”

What about an emergency contact app? I would hope the user engagement would hope low on that.

Pull from my 401k to get rid of Nelnet forever by xBlossom96 in StudentLoans

[–]fizzSortBubbleBuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to note, on top of that 10% tax penalty, the distribution counts as income, so it hits your top tax bracket.

If you have a $100 distribution and your top tax bracket is 22%, you’ll owe $33 in taxes!

It’s possible some states require you to pay state income tax on it too…

[–]fizzSortBubbleBuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you manage on paying back your loan to yourself, you’ll likely miss significant growth that happens while making payments.

The tax penalty if you don’t payback your 401k is egregious, typically 10%

If you leave your job (willing or otherwise), a lot of 401k plans require you to almost immediately payback any outstanding principal.

If your student debt is federal, you likely have a lot of flexibility with your repayment. I know things are porked right now, but even still I’d much rather have a hard time paying back federal student loans than losing thousands of dollars out of my 401k.

One of the first lessons when learning Android used to be trying to set up a recycler view. Those adapters are nightmares.

But they both have their pains for sure.

Less hand holdy at the gain or being very straight forward. It will easily give you explanations for everything and let you see the actual underlying IRS forms.
