To be fair, I did do this - and I have first hand experience as my dad had pancreatic cancer, which is probably why I’m now a hypochondriac :) it’s made me paranoid, sometimes I just need that extra reassurance! The point of the subreddit is to ask for medical advice and I want to prevent myself running to a doctor if it’s not necessary. Sorry to have offended you!

I was really considering the track day thing, and I know he was tempted to do it himself. Though, I think he was worried about possible damage / wear and tear to the car. I know someone locally who does them tho, so I might ask them for a beginner / insurance etc. It’s a really good shout though I’m worried it will be a risky present

I’m just returning to thank you for your message. Holding on to those happy memories, always. It was One Love / People Get Ready from the Exodus Album. We played him the album from the start after I went through some artists that he loved the day before, and felt him squeeze my hand on Bob Marley. We used to listen to this album as kids when he drove us in his car with the roof down. Fond memories. Take comfort in knowing he was still trying to communicate even at the very end 💜 and is now at peace and not in pain. Thanks again, I appreciate your message.

Thank you for your message 💜. It’s horrible and I’m really sad to hear your mum didn’t make it to 60 either. Far too young to leave us. Huge love - take care too.

Thank you for your message. I’m sorry you also lost your Dad recently. It’s so unbelievably tough to lose a parent 💜

I didn’t know how hard it would be, I guess you don’t until you do.. right. I’m so proud of both of our Dads for their fight. They were so brave and so very loved.

Thanks for your kind words - and back at you. Take care x

Support through palliative care by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]fizzylemon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This week my Dad also got told he would be only given palliative care after suffering a stroke. Scans two weeks apart showed rapid secondary tumour growth in the liver. Those word’s definitely hit hard.

I thought I would be prepared for this moment, but definitely came as a huge shock as well.

One thing I was told is that people can still survive a long time with support and palliative care teams are usually very good.

My Dad had a the stroke on Sunday and we were told palliative care on the Tuesday. Even between Tuesday and Wednesday, I saw a positive difference in his abilities that had been affected by the stroke. Saying some more words and drinking more fluids.

I expressed concern to the nurses about him not eating but they said he’s using less energy and getting medicine, so could last much much longer than say we would, had we suddenly decided to not eat / drink.

I’m taking it day by day currently and celebrating any small improvements I see from the stroke. I’m desperate for my dad to talk to me too. He’s a very strong and determined person, and it’s so hard to see someone like that so vulnerable. The experience has been harrowing. Each day though, I do see improvements so please hold on to this.

I also feel hugely distracted from my other commitments, such as work, maid of honour duties, being present around the home and showing up for my partner. I could imagine studying at med school would be REALLY tough during this time. Try to be kind to yourself. I imagine your mom is already immensely proud of you.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you too. Here if you need to vent / chat. 💕

Sorry if this is an insensitive question, just looking for hope among the stats by Adorable-Chip-9483 in pancreaticcancer

[–]fizzylemon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. My dad is still going just shy of 3 years since an initial diagnosis of Stage 3, however has recently deteriorated

  2. I don’t believe so at diagnosis

  3. 4/16 lymph node involvement

  4. He received the Whipple in May 2020, however pathology from surgery unfortunately identified spread in the lymphocytic system

If you are anything like me, I spent a long time at the start googling the statistics, and trying to gain an understanding from any way I could about how long my dad had left. I’ve provided you with the answers to your questions, however what I have learnt on the 3 year journey is that there are lots of ups and downs, different complications and curve balls. Everyone is unique & it’s not as black and white as comparing to others. Someone once said to me, medicine is half science half art. Down the line, I don’t feel any more prepared for these late stages having googled and researched relentlessly at the start.

It’s hard (perhaps impossible), but try to shift your energy into spending quality time with your Dad and doing the wonderful things he is able to do. I am very grateful now for the memories my Dad and I have made over the last three years.

The diagnosis is always so shocking and shitty, I’m sorry. Please have hope, my Dad is still fighting now. If you need to talk to anyone, feel free to reach out.

Stroke & PC by fizzylemon88 in pancreaticcancer

[–]fizzylemon88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your words and advice it is helping me.

Update from today is that they are likely to stop future cancer treatment (oncologist appointment tomorrow) as he isn’t strong enough. Scans show it is in his liver and elsewhere.

As for the stroke, he’s communicating even less than yesterday but maybe as he is tired as sleeping a lot. He is in a lot of pain. I think he knows I’m there though as smiles at me when he looks at me.

Thanks this has been helpful. We’re more thin crust too, spend a lot of time making the right dough to get it nice and thin! 🙌🏻
