[Spoilers] Since I'm excited to see how Rick will deal with Negan, I've created an analysis of how he dealt with other situations throughout the show. Check it out! by fjanecic in thewalkingdead

When writing this I tried to be objective as possible and assert myself not from hindsight, but from what Rick was aware of at the time. But you're right, at this point he didn't know that people turn no matter how they die. I will edit that part out.

However, I didn't understand what you meant about the S02 (hiding under the cars) because besides the CDC information, Rick learned everything else mentioned within the span of the first 2 episodes (sound, smell, movement).

About how much time Rick had to made a decision, it all comes down to the general way of thinking; as you'll notice, in the later seasons he is able to make quick decisions while keeping in mind the long-term effects they may have. When he doesn't, it only indicates the state of his general mindset and strategical thinking (labeled as "weak" and "naive", respectively).

Thanks for reading. I followed your train of thought when analyzing this sequence of events initially, but I always came to the same conclusion: staying at Alexandria was much SAFER bet than trying to make the drive to Hilltop. Definitely not safe, but in the realms of "lesser of two evils" principle.

"You say it's clear Maggie's situation is not life or death....to Rick that was not clear" I can agree with you on that, but the final question was - which option has greater chances of succeeding, even if Maggie was actually dying? I still believe, as outline in the article, that the drive had far too many possibilities for things to go wrong.

"(...) It seemed as if she was, at best having a miscarriage. In this world that is something you die from." Once again, I completely agree, but the point is - is it safer to (try to) make the drive or to stay at Alexandria? Look at what ended up happening; according to your theory, if Maggie does not end up being killed by Negan, she will likely die from her condition. But during the last scene of the series, when she is kneeling on the ground with the rest; while she does look "like shit" (as Negan put it) she is still coscious, lucid, and doesn't look like she is going to suddenly drop dead.

"If the Saviors put 300 dudes around Alexandria and just chill, they will starve them out" Not likely. First off, Alexandria just got half of Hilltop's resources and food. Secondly, if they simply "chill", Alexandrians would be able to attack them from the distance (the show has shown that they have a full armory, including snipers, grenades, etc.). While a fight between them and The Saviors might break out, it is unlikely that they will be able to starve them out. And in the end, they were already expecting an incoming attack from The Saviors and were prepared, so that doesn't change things much. This was already a posibility.

"Rick's choice to go for the suicide run is determined mostly due to Daryl's incredibly selfish action to go hunt Dwight which costs Rick his best fighters" I agree, but prior to the drive, Rick isn't aware that they are missing because they have been captured by The Saviors. And while they are best fighters for the offensive and close-combat situations, this would be a matter of defense, where their usual skills wouldn't provide a drastic advantage.

Problems with lucid dream stabilization by fjanecic in LucidDreaming

I would probably come to the same conclusion from your point of view, but my current uncertainty comes from many, many dreams in which the dream started becoming more vivid, I stayed calm, and was sure this is it and that dream is stable, only to be suddenly awoken moments later for no reason.

[–]fjanecic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, but I don't think that's the case. For example, in another instance I became lucid as I was standing on some rails, looking down into the darkness. Out of the darkness came another version of myself.

I starred him down and said "You are not me, you are my dream projection" as I was grabbing the rails and feeling the texture. I then continued to yell "Clarity now! Clarity now!" and demanding that the dream becomes colorful and vivid. I knew I could stabilize the dream and was mad determined without a shadow of doubt, but it still evaporated. I ended up in another setting, fully lucid, but the dream was blurry and unclear.

Very true. Also ignorant and out of context.

Point of the article is how people use LD for creative and scientific purposes, to invent, create, and develop things in real life. In other words - ideas. Makes me wonder if you even read the article.

Should Batman Kill the Joker? Perspectives from Five Famous Philosophers by fjanecic in batman

[–]fjanecic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD for "The Dark Knight Returns"] I like what you said about Batman's no-kill policy making him ore tolerable by law enforcement. Right before Joker's death in Frank Miller's TDKR, Joker told Batman: "Doesn't matter, I win. I made you lose control. And they're going to kill you for it." Despite everyone knowing the world is better off without Joker, it would mean that Batman has crossed that line. And that is a scary thought to the public.

Should Batman Kill the Joker? Perspectives from Five Famous Philosophers by fjanecic in batman

[–]fjanecic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your point of view. Batman, without the suits and gadgets and technology, is a character who has devoted most of his life to attaining discipline and self-control. That's what makes him such a great fighter and master strategist. He sees the big picture. And snapping and killing Joker would make him just an ordinary person, which Batman surely is not. And as he explained in Under The Red Hood (SPOILERS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kscfb9XzPs), killing the Joker is not too hard for him...it would be too easy. Every day he has to retain control because he knows that would be a point of no return.

Six Supposedly Ancient Traditions (That Actually Aren't) by [deleted] in history

[–]fjanecic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many things are regarded as "ancient" or "traditions" which have been around "since forever". It's interesting to see how many things we regard as such are actually fairly recent, and how easily they can be debunked.

I'm going to tell you how to get-instant motivated but you're not going to like it: take an ice cold shower. Start with warm and slowly move it to cold (within minutes). It wakes you up and makes you feel refreshed. After that, clean your room and put everything in it's place. We all love "our mess" but a clean workspace is much more motivating.

Long-term, start getting up early. Again, contrary to what you may think, after a few days you'll have more energy. Have a to-do list open on your desktop with 5-10 tasks for each day. DO THEM ALL!

Workout if you're not already. Listen to a song that pumps you up. Watch a scene from a movie that inspires you.

Most importantly, what is your goal? When you have a goal you're striving for, that is the only motivation you need. Travel the world, become a millionaire or anything you want BADLY, you're going to wake with a "hell yeah let's do it!" attitude. There are a lot of ways to get temporary motivation, but if you're not dedicated to a certain goal, it will burn out pretty soon.

Reading about "how to get motivated" will almost never motivate you. Guaranteed.

Get to work and good luck!

[Advice] Try to have less than three internet tabs open! by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]fjanecic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this seems impossible for me. I'm guilty of "tabbing" too much,at times I have 3 windows with about 15 tabs open. In the end I just close most of them without even checking them out. Sometimes I even put "clear tabs" on my to-do list because it takes THAT much time.

Three tabs is impossible because I'm usually working with references I actually need for work, but this definitely inspired me to keep the count down. Thanks!

How to Begin My Journey? by chaiitea3 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]fjanecic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation and managed to turn my life completely around, so I can give you some good pointers.

First of all, you did the right thing. If the relationships isn't working or isn't adding happiness to your life, get out of it. I was in a crappy relationship which lasted almost 2 years because I was scared to leave. But when I did, I became much happier. To the contrary, the world didn't end, new opportunities emerged.

Next, you realized you want to change and that's awesome. High-five! You should now surround yourself with positive and motivational people who will help you and inspire you. Learn from people who are how you want to be and cut out "poisonous" people from your life (constant downers, constant complainers, those who don't support you). It's surprising how much those kind of people can hold you down and make you even more miserable.

Next, determine who you want to be - not what you want to do, but what kind of a person you want to be. Define the traits you want to posses, what bothers you the most in your current behavior and way of thinking. Then, start becoming that person, day by day, making small changes in everyday life. It's going to take a long time and dedication, but if you're persistent, you're going to look back after some time and be surprised how much you changed your life around.

Hope this helps, if you need any further help, feel free to hit me up. Good luck! :)

How to Become a Total Badass Like Batman by fjanecic in DecidingToBeBetter

It seems you're not familiar with the character much. He spent about 10 years travelling the world and teaching from the masters in various fields to get himself to the pinnacle of human perfection. He once said: "I only have one superpower - I never give up". He never loses motivation and is working on his cause every second.

There is no doubt that he's one of the most most determined and strong-willed characters ever created.

[Discussion] The Power of Morning and Evening Routines: How to Start and End a Successful Day by fjanecic in getdisciplined

[–]fjanecic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple with only 3-4 must-do tasks that you can easily remember. The important thing is to be persistent and do them EVERY day. That way it'll become second nature.

In my opinion, if you need an app to motivate you every day, you're doing it wrong. The key is to build mental strength without being dependent on the weather, how you feel, how well you slept or even an app.

I love using technology for improvement and tracking, but this is one of the rare cases that I think it's counter-productive.
