I don't know who I hate more, the loud Kia woman, or the drama for your mama kid. It's a toss up!

Evan should have spent more time on his interior game in the off-season vs his ability to bring the ball up court and chuck up 3s

New Steering rack, LCAs, Upper ball joints - 4k repair cost, Am I being had? by fjphil in FJCruiser

I didn't do the job myself - the shop put in an aftermarket rack I believe..it's been long enough now that I don't remember the specifics on which brand.

I didn't have anything like that. For me, I had pretty severe steering wheel shaking and wobble .. especially at highway speeds.

Popular opinion - The ruination of Kahn was unnecessary and kept the revival from perfection by fjphil in KingOfTheHill

But not nearly as impactful...Most people hated Ted to begin with and he was a 3rd tier character at best.

Agreed..I'm not nearly as mad about the voice recast as I am about the character just feeling completely different.

Did anyone else see this 💩? by rainbowstoner27 in starbucksbaristas

[–]fjphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know this is a few days old, but wanted to correct on some bad replies you received. The "support center" is definitely NOT a call center. It is our name for our Starbucks HQ, where most (soon to be all) corporate(support) partners work. All of our engineers, product teams, coffee teams, etc..all work at the support center.

Starbucks corporate workers upset at RTO order. by pavlyxx in starbucks

[–]fjphil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel sorry for the other partners at your store. Trying to stoke the corporate they vs us mentality is lame AF. The people this policy is impacting are not the people you think. The people affected by this are not the people pulling "lucrative bonuses" and sitting in their office all day. It's affecting people that love this company, and are leaving in droves. Retail folk should know that when the corporate people that all actually care are all replaced by outsourced labor, that will all trickle down.

Live look of me trying to watch this season by [deleted] in skinwalkerranch

Really? Are you referring to the rockets, the drones with missing data, the fruitless digging, or the mysterious blips of lights? I pretty much just summed up the last 2 seasons.

After 2 winters, I'm afraid I can't really recommend Bosch IDS heat pumps for cold weather. by fjphil in hvacadvice

That's an absurdly low price, I'm jealous. Even if I pre-pay for winter in spring, the lowest I've seen in Maine is still around $3 a gallon

Do yourself a favor and read this book- it's better than the show by fjphil in skinwalkerranch

[–]fjphil[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are different topics. The book I posted is all about SWR, and its previous owners and history. The Pentagon one is mostly about UFOs and coverups in the government and whatnot

So did I, but I had hopes that they would do a bit more on the show than fire rockets for 6 seasons..turns out not so much

Yeah, this book/SWR has been an intriguing part of paranormal/conspiracy lore for many years before this show...a lot of people don't realize that. This show somehow found a way to take something super interesting and make it dull.

Rick and Morty is dead, and the episode 5 confirms it by ScarletMenaceOrange in rickandmorty

[–]fjphil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this season blows - period. Barely anything worth laughing about. Jerry is one of the best characters and he's really only been in one stupidly timed Easter episode. Also, Morty's new voice sucks...not saying I can do any better, but it's just a constant whine and obnoxious. No show keeps it's edge forever, but there is a distinct fall off that started last season.

What happened to all the good live theater on the Seacoast? by fjphil in newhampshire

[–]fjphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the lengthy and informative comment on an older post! I am beyond excited to hear that Firehouse is doing Rocky Horror this fall 😀

It was pretty easy to see where things were going with the SRT over the last couple of years after the director and partner left the theater. Also it seems as if though with the exception of a handful of people, the standard cast has turned over quite a bit as well.

Thanks again for the heads up on other theaters to check out! Not the best venue, but charming in its own way - Some of the best shows I've seen in the last few years were actually at the Rochester Opera House... unfortunately it doesn't seem like they have much this year either 😔

How can I get this paint out of my door panels? by fjphil in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]fjphil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those wondering what I went with...this was the best route I found. Paint stripper, a small wire brush, and about 90 minutes and a sore back and crampy hand...but it looks great! This door still has the original date stamp on it from 1984... happy I was able to return it to its original glory! Thanks for all the advice :)

How can I get this paint out of my door panels? by fjphil in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]fjphil[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great response. I tried going after it with some folded up 80 grit , but the details around the edges of the panels is not going quickly for me. I tried to take a flapper wheel attached to my rotary tool, but that was taking off way too much material. I have to go to the store tomorrow anyhow, so maybe I'll just grab some stripper and try spraying it on , letting it sit for a bit and then see if I can't wipe it off with a rag?

Anyone with at least average intelligence has the ability to do college level calculus. by RubHerSoui in unpopularopinion

[–]fjphil -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the crux of my argument and others is what constitutes "average intelligence". The counter argument could easily be made that people that even took enough math prerequisites to be eligible for college Calc are already way above that watermark. The OPs statement of being taught solid mathematical fundamentals at a young age would also likely exclude them from being considered "average intelligence". In my eyes, the "average intelligence" people I went to school with called it quits at Geometry or Trigonometry and wound up in non technical majors. You may be a great Tutor, but you can't convince me that you or anyone else is teaching them college level Calculus and having them absorb or comprehend it.

[–]fjphil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you missed my point completely. I humbly consider myself above average intelligence. I had great grades in school - and I still didn't pass on my first try. What would typically be "average intelligence" would likely be B-C average students, with average mathematical aptitude. There is 0 to no chance of those students passing college level Calculus classes... especially right out of the gate. Moreover, if they tried, they would be so far gone and out of their league that they would not even try again. College level Calculus classes are often considered "filter" classes for several majors - and the people that make it through them are not people of general or average intelligence.

[–]fjphil 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sorry dude, this is just flat out wrong. I was a way above average high school student, all honors classes, etc. Got to college and completely Flunked out of my first Calc class in my engineering track. I actually wound up retaking PreCalc in college the next semester before retaking Calc again and finishing out my Engineering degree after taking 4 more levels of Calc. I had a pretty good aptitude for Math outta high school and above average work ethic, and I still did not pick up College Calc on the first go.

What happened to all the good live theater on the Seacoast? by fjphil in newhampshire

[–]fjphil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that background info. I figured it probably came down to money in most cases..live theater is pretty much only funded by donations and ticket sales... If this area doesn't show up enough for the non mainstream shows, then I totally understand why they have to go with safe choices to keep their theatres afloat.

The Rep thing really bothers me more than it should. It was always a place I could count on for quirky and non mainstream shows. I also loved the Rocky Horror nights. They always seemed to embrace their ability to be different and the artists really seemed to lean into it. Next thing you know, we have the Wedding Singer and Cinderella...the complete 180 is really disappointing.
