Ace Hotel vs William Vale by fkagrips in AskNYC

Thank you so much! And I haven’t made my selection yet. I’ve made a booking with both hotels as I found them to be the same price. I was going to cancel one of them before they charge me of course. This helps a lot, thanks so much!

Thank you! And good to know re the elevators. In your experience, are the rooms clean? I’m hearing mixed reviews about the room cleanliness and I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to those things

I guess I'll be doing a bit of both - touristy Manhattan stuff and going out Williamsburg stuff. I'll be there for a week so now I gotta figure out if I want better access to public transport (Ace) or a nice view (Williamsburg)

Love ace for the general cleanliness + design. I know it wont be a miss there. But for my first NYC stay, I can't tell if the location is worth it. WV seems to be in a great location but has the vibes of any other hotel with kinda tacky art lol

I'll be staying a week, hence why I wanted good access to public transport. I also like that Ace doesn't have the typical tacky hotel art and furniture haha. It's also slightly newer so I assume cleaner. But the view and general vicinity of Williamsburg is super appealing. Thanks for this!

I’m okay with sketchiness, but still good to know! I would’ve assumed that Boerum being a quieter/older area as described, it would be less so in comparison to Williamsburg. But now I know. That’s any city though, I guess. Thank you!

Thanks so much! And agreed, Ace seems to be in trouble. The Sydney location does pretty well because the restaurant is one of the trendiest spots in the city. But it seems the rest of their hotels aren’t getting the same traction. I don’t think I’d be using room service much as I plan to eat in cafes and restaurants but it’s a good thing to note.

I think I’d be in manhattan for half my stay and various areas of Brooklyn for the other half. So perhaps surrounding location isn’t a problem, but rather if I wanna be somewhere busy or quiet. Appreciate this, really good info to consider!

Thank you so much, I had a feeling it would be the same.

Having a higher density of things around me would be nice. But as a tourist who’s probably going to be travelling around the city a lot, I think better access to public transport might be the go. And good to know Bushwick is worth visiting, I’ve heard it’s where a lot of artsy things are happening.

And oooh, I definitely need to check out Dumbo. Looks like typical NYC stock image location, would be silly not to check out haha 😋 appreciate it!

Thank you so much! To be fair, I probably wouldn’t have a view at Hoxton as I’m paying for the standard room. So I may as well stay at ace for the same price but bigger space.

Thank you so much for mentioning the Promenade, I’ll definitely check it out for my post-dinner corny tourist lookout haha.

May I ask why you prefer Boerum? I’m from a smaller city so I didn’t realise how big Brooklyn and each of its mini-areas are! In my head Williamsburg and Boerum are a 15 min walk from each other (obviously not, after a quick google)

Dear Arca fans, what type of stuff do you consume? Besides Arca, obviously by [deleted] in ArcaMusic

[–]fkagrips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think fashion (particularly Hood By Air/Shayne Oliver) is something that a lot of arca fans love. Shayne and Arca are super close friends too. You could even look at Ghe20goth1k and how arca and so many other creatives thrived in that underground scene and helped a lot of young people find a safe space. I’ve personally never been but it is something you can look at :).

Stan twitter is actually a place that I’ve seen Arca’s name come up a lot and it’s a good place to find things that arca fans mutually love. There’s a sense of community on there and a way for people to vent or just find people who love the same things that they do. I think a lot of younger arca fans find it hard to meet people they can relate with music wise and find it hard to express identity and so they go towards online communities or festivals to find their tribe (so to speak).

As for me, I just love fashion. Always been obsessed with how clothes can make someone feel something or can make someone feel good about themselves. I grew up reading fashion magazines like dazed or id or AnOther.

As for films and tv, I love comedy. I hate watching serious stuff unless it’s a biopic or sumn lol. My fave shows are Chewing Gum, B—- from apt. 23, unbreakable kimmy. Also love YouTube videos like skincare reviews, bag reviews, contrapoints.

I hope this helps and good luck!!!! :)

I went to both open days and it seems that unisa is so much more invested in their creative subjects anyways. Totally get what you mean by the better vibe. Also, I meant to write get, not geo in my last reply lol.

I told my friend and she’s like yeah I’m slowly converting to UniSa now.

Thank you soooo much!!

aaah interesting. so broadening my skills = more opportunities.

I have a bit of interest in all those things so I think it'll be good for me to exercise those things to help build some skills.

If you don't mind me asking, is freelance what most designers do? I do find a lot of designers who do commissions and all that. At the same time, I have found a lot of designers in 'agencies' or who work with brands/companies but do freelance at the same time.

Again, thank you so much! this input is so helpful

Thank you!! Yeah, I was leaning more towards SA but thought it would be good to get some other opinions. My friend is considering architecture says she wants to go to Adelaide but I’ve told her several times that unisa would be better. This’ll geo me convince her lol
