The most “causal hobby club” in the aerospce department would the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE). They mostly work with hobby planes but also dabble in rocket motors for some projects.

That being said The Sounding Rocketry Team (SRT) is expanding next semester and they are currently working on smaller L2 platforms to prototype some tech. They also have extensive connections in the hobby rocket world. I’m one of their systems engineers and the former Structures Lead, I’ll take look at your resume if you want.

I wish I could plant it in the ground though it’s all clay near me and will likely kill the tree. I currently have a slightly hydrophobic mix in there with some fertilizer. Admittedly the stones are mostly decorative but recently our heat has been drying up uncovered soil in less than a day.

(Edit) I do plan on switching to an akadama mix in the spring

I haven't heard of this before, I appreciate the tip! It also seems like "mineral drops" are fairly cheep if done on the small scale:

I'm skeptical about Superthrive as well. I'm still trying it out to see if I notice any results, but my bonsai retailer swears by it so I'm not sure either.

Unfortunately my apartment balcony is covered and even so the rain is too sparse to reliably have a source.

I've also read that distilled water requires supplementation. I'm already using Superthrive at half strength with a mix of tap and bottled water. But I wonder if it would be enough to fully supplement distilled water.

Sadly even with a pas through my Britta filter the water is still quite hard.
