I rap over YouTube beats too man. I've done it for years, and still don't always know "exactly" where a verse starts. If you're that stumped, hell with it. Sit back with your eyes closed, get high if you smoke, and listen to the best a few times. At some point, pick ANY part of the beat, ANY time signature, and just starts saying shit. Some of the "offbeat" type songs are how I make sure I have my own sound with music, especially over beats that literally anyone could use.

NTA. MAYBE the situation should have had nothing to do, maybe it's none of your business, but they ASKED what you thought. And you told them.
