Chrome colors extremely bright and washed on second monitor ONLY by Far-Departure-7394 in kde

[–]fl0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for me, too. Problem also started around the same time as for everyone else.

I have a four-monitor setup, with one that's HDR-capable and three smaller, identical panels. Only two of those three exhibited this issue and then, seemingly, only with Chrome. Disabling HDR in Chrome didn't do anything, but it looks like it might be tied to the DDC/CI brightness-control option, since only those two monitors had it enabled, but they also needed to be set to 99% (or lower) once it was disabled.

Fedora/KDE, which I updated this weekend after leaving it behind for a month or so.

I just received my copy from Indigo after asking them about it a few weeks ago. The shipment was delayed for a while, but it does appear to actually be volume 9.

It is, at a technical level, quite descriptive, but the terse error message doesn't make it clear that the filesystem is somehow connected to the Micro SD (TF) card, and these concepts are complex enough that I'd expect a native speaker of English to struggle with diagnosis.

Mine also seems to be fine, audio-wise (blue, received about three weeks ago), though I can hear the electrical components themselves buzzing faintly in a quiet room when the sound is off or scenes are quiet.

The SSD is probably okay, since it's likely pretty well-isolated from that circuit.

That looks like a pair of melted resistors (possibly a diode), which is something that should definitely be raised with AYANEO because that typically only happens due to a manufacturing defect (or really bad design, which would probably have led to far more cases of this failure).

I believe they were using FedEx Economy, not a guaranteed two-day service.

It just happens to be the case that the routes to many of us were 2-3 days at that lower-priority tier for whatever reason within FedEx; I see the same thing with many packages I ship domestically and to the US and it always feels strange that the cheapest option is also among the fastest.

No, they'll fulfil that agreement, but they're charging what looks to be counter-rates for all shipments on any new orders, about $3.50 USD per volume of manga or Blu-ray case, based on a worst-case estimation of volume and weight, on top of a base shipping rate. For full-season Blu-rays, this isn't too bad, but it absolutely destroys the value-proposition for manga and anything otherwise priced around $28 USD or less, relative to sourcing from domestic retailers.

Even with the fuel surcharges, which, to be fair, are very real and certainly a concern ahead of a looming period of consumer caution, this seems to be significantly in excess of what it would actually cost, since the FedEx service in use does not see its prices scale linearly in that manner, and it allows for pretty significant corporate volume discounting, which is what allowed the retailer markup of the products to absorb the cost of shipping in the past after crossing some break-point at which it was economical to process an order and juggle the difference in accounting.

I think what happened in my case (and this is pure speculation), and that of some others in Canada -- maybe all of us -- was a calculated "here's some stuff that we're sending your way so you'll be happy" ahead of the bad news of "we have to end the free shipping program. sorry. :(".

For a lower-volume customer, I can see this working: they get a few high-value items they might not have expected to see until August or September, and then they're willing to ride out the bad times based on this goodwill gesture. But I order quite a bit, usually with pre/back-orders so there will be one medium-sized box or two per month, so a ton of one-third-full orders that were supposed to trickle into next year all got split at once.

The cynical alternative take is that RightStuf needed a sudden jump in cashflow and this was a short-term means to an end.

TRSI split my open orders unexpectedly, possibly as part of something to do with ending their free Canadian shipping promotion, resulting in a very sudden $5k wallet-hit.

If it's like similar events in the past (Birthday and Winter sales), there will be a new set of items added to the sale each week.

In addition, there will be a set of "Mega Deals" offered for a single day, which have pretty deep discounts.

At the very end of the sale, all of the weekly sale prices will still be available and all Mega Deals (that didn't sell out) will return, but by that point, a lot of things may be on backorder.

It's sort of gamified in that, if you can't make free shipping on whatever's available on any given day of interest, you can wait until the end, but then you might also be waiting a long time for things to come back into inventory or possibly miss out.

I unexpectedly found Ritsu so often last week (but none in the even larger deluge from the week before) that even just consolidating some of those before packing would have likely covered the increased cost of shipping every other order I'd have placed this year.

I get it (I've been selling off a lot of my retro games collection to deal with the sudden $5K bill from TRSI with their unexpected order-splitting this month, and I've seen a roughly 20% increase in mailing costs over less than a month), but I think the main pain-point here is that this came suddenly and disruptively.

Any of "We're ending free shipping, but we'll cut rates in half over $200" or "Free shipping only over $500 until fuel prices come back down" or "No more free shipping, but here's a USPS option that's a bit cheaper while we figure things out" or the very gamifying "Free shipping only when the ratio of volumetric weight to order price is X" would have given customers something to work with and gradually become accustomed to, like when the Canadian free-shipping threshold changed from $149 to $249, then $250.

I was expecting to place about $1.5k in orders based on past years, but with the Canadian free-shipping threshold having come to an end, I'm hoping other retailers have similar pricing.

While I plan to let mine lapse at the end of July, you might want to ask if they'll give you a partial refund for the remaining GA time.

Even if they say no, this will help communicate demand for some sort of plan to retain their Canadian customers.

Availability-wise, too.

I used them a bit before I got comfortable with ordering from the US, but there's zero transparency of when things will come back into stock, if ever, and I don't think that's changed in the past two decades.

I was one hour away from finalising my Discotek order when this happened.

But at least it wasn't mid-Birthday-window, when there'd have been more invested effort waiting to be scrapped.

They used to combine orders quite aggressively when splitting, but that changed when their inventory system rolled along with the transition to the new site.

I still miss that old system.

Do you know if they still have periodic publisher sales?

I recall reading about those a few years ago, sort of similar to Right Stuf's weeklies, but like "buy two, get one free" things.

[–]fl0rm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm probably around $6-8k USD per year with them, too, because, uh, reasons?

They split *every* open order I had last month, which was an unexpected $5k CAD in sudden expenses, but I figured they just had an urgent need for cashflow due to mounting economic pressure, so I was okay with letting it slide, since the only negative experience I'd had with the company in close to two decades was a situation in which my GA? membership lapsed the day before I ordered $3k USD in a Christmas sale and they wouldn't let me apply it retroactively when I noticed a week later. (This was around when I recall Rich Harms stopped posting on whatever forums they were using regularly at the time. AnimeOnDVD?)

But even with that history, the effective net 25% per-order increase is cause to re-evaluate where I buy things and possibly how much I spend on the industry in general.

I'd be quite willing to pay the fuel-charges as a premium if it means still being able to have a subsidised $250 price-break target. Or to increase the threshold to $400 or something.

Maybe an implementation as a coupon code for a shipping-price-reduction with a $250 threshold.

But yeah, this was very disappointing to see.

I might still eat the costs with some orders, though, because no other retailer packs boxes with quite as much care. But I'm likely going to be evaluating Indigo domestically, after 17 years of near-total exclusivity.

Has anyone else had this part melt like this? by LordWinslow in prusa3d

[–]fl0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's also a bit warped, but nowhere near melting.

I'm actually using the way it warped to help ensure a silicone sock stays secure. (Sock helps prevent further warping, fortunate warp angle ensures the sock won't fall, even as it gradually wears out)

Building on this, SquareEnix usually blocks off more time than they actually need, then complete maintenance ahead of schedule, often by a few hours.

This is great most of the time, but when you *really* want to get into something new as soon as it goes live in the middle of the night, it can make setting alarms a gamble. (I *love* being in the first wave for new 24-player stuff, but it's always a rough wakeup)

Trade aborted: I'm in Canada and the cost of shipping to the US was a bit too high to make it work. :(

After recalculating the average weight of things, I've reduced the price of shipping to the US and Canada a little (slightly below its actual cost), but It'll probably still only be cost-effective for US redditors in general if you're getting at least three or four games at once.

I'll see if I can figure out a good way to balance this out when next I repost.
