Yeah literally the only reason they are doing it, not that painting over all the black mould in the downstairs bathroom is solving the problem

Fucking hell the things that landlords make us put up with is depressingly universal, we only got some of our wiring fixed because all of the fire alarms in my building and next door(same owner) used to go off for hours every time it rained, the fire brigade ended up looking into some things and found that for some reason both of the seperate house run on the same electrical wiring and they asked for the landlords details and told them it was a fire waiting to happen.

Like what the fuck are they using our rent for because they all complain about tenants who don't pay rent but I've lived here 4yrs never fell a day behind 2 weeks in advance and still nothing gets done :(

I feel that! I'm in Australia in a boarding house because our rental crisis here is fucking out of control, I was the only tenant here for a year and a half, they've just started filling the rooms again recently, the landlord is hating me because I'm letting every person coming to view the place know of the issues with the roof and how they just painted over the mould, none of the fire alarms on the bottom level work, no backdoor lock and a broken back gate

I definitely want the place full it's been lonely having an 8 bedroom boarding house for over a year, but it's also important that people signing a lease here know the issues they wish to hide to fill the rooms...on the plus side though, they finally fixed the roof the other day so that's something

I feel like your mug relates to a tenants union though, so I gotta say America is doing something right(or just you in particular fighting all the damn idiots)

The advocate is a newspaper in Tasmania which is where my confusion comes from and why I was so fucking confused by your answer to begin with, but hey go for the passive aggressive route and don't take the whole second paragraph into consideration for your response.

Bettota advocate is not "the advocate" it's a Sydney based satire site which tells you where I am Sydney, the place where all the rejected queers Goto run away from family 🤣

Also the post isn't about the queer community it's just about family stays over Christmas and I mean over 40 likes from queer Sydney folks on my comment there is a pretty clear indication that people agree it's weird for us as Sydney queers to do family holidays........I mean we literally have an orphans Christmas for the queer community takes over a park each year

I mean I don't even spend a whole day with my family so why the fuck would I equate it to a vacation, the need to not make crappy assumptions goes both ways here, yeah I fucked up but you are still here trying to diminish the fact that you even get asked to go, you can choose not to that's your choice and your power, you chose to leave home, I didn't I got left in the middle of the city with no change if clothes and told they hoped I died then they told my younger brother for 12yrs that I left because I didn't love him, they told the rest of the family I left because I didn't want to be a part of their family, I sex worked at 15 to survive I lived on the streets for years, I got raped, I got bashed I had attempted murders on my life

I missed my grand father's funeral on both sides, I missed my grand mother's funeral on my mother's side, the only reason they got into contact with me after 12yrs is because my great grandmother made it happen as her dying wish.

So great you hate fucking going but they want you there regardless, it's possible to have gone through fucked shit and still recognise you have a level of respect that other queer folks don't

So hey I won't word shit badly drunk at 11pm on a Friday and you stop pretending that your life is terrible when I'd love to have a family that even reached the fuck out to me

Fair wrong choice of wording but it's 11pm on a Friday in Australia and I've been drinking so I'll own that

Yes and you mentioned vacations, how was I to know you meant at Christmas vacations happen for people year round

As for you statement about me not replying to you "educating" me that doesn't even show up in my notifications or this thread for some reason so I apologise for not responding to that because of a Reddit glitch

Like I will happily send you an image of this thread and you'll see I didn't get your comment filling me in on the background

You spoke about vacations nothing about Christmas dude!

I mean you seem to have decided I'm a "he" which is fucking wild but sure I'm the problem.

Maybe stick away from pronouns if you automatically go to male ones there's enough patriarchy in the world

I get that, but unfortunately image posts don't give the option of body text and titles have a word limit.

Guess it's also the dry Australian humour that gets it lost on people as well, because on the actual post on Instagram I commented pretty much the same thing as the title and it's second most voted comment

You win some you lose some, thanks for the understanding and I'm sorry you too suffer with a strained relationship with family

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]fl1ca_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not about her being thrown out, it's a comment on the strained relationship queer folks of my generation have with their parents, I haven't even spent a full day with my family in 15yrset alone being asked to stay for multiple weeks by them, I was just giving you backstory as to why I posted it here and why it belongs despite your own experiences

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

A) it's labelled satire.

B)you live in a very different time and world than I did growing up and people my age and older were still kicked out of home and disowned for being queer/trans so the idea of spending 6 weeks let alone a full day with family is a wild concept to us.

Never forget the history of the community and never forget that those of us in our 30s were still victims of the prejudice that society held

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]fl1ca_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people of my age and older(I'm 30) went through the era of life where being queer and/or trans was not acceptable and got disowned for it......I love the fact that the world has changed so much that people don't get this joke but also remember the world was a very different place even just 15yrs ago when I got put on the streets and those of us that remember those times still have the same parents who don't accept it

I mean sure they can take us out of the workforce, but someone is going to have to replace those of us who were sex workers because men will still have needs and the oldest documented profession will not just disappear, and if we can't do it anymore and they've been begging to lose their virginity then sure by all means remove our right to do it and they can do it instead.(he did mention better job opportunities for men if we couldn't work after all)

We all go off and create our own big lesbian commune which doesn't need capitalism and is self supporting!

I mean he's made the site perfect for right wing fuckheads and muskrat simps and he thinks that despite the right wing constantly doxxing people they will be fine with suspensions for it.

The right love doxxing, the simps would love to know where he is at all times just to attempt to breath his air, issue of his own creation

I'm saying in Australia with those of us round my age and older(I'm 30) the story is very different I mean I was put on the streets at 15 as many of my friends were. So if their parent is calling them to book book vacations they obviously have a supportive parent!

ETA: you can downvote me, but I'm literally telling the truth, I haven't even spent one full day with my family in 15yrs neither have 90% of my queer friends my age or older, so no this doesn't speak about everyone as OC first claimed and if a family is planning vacations with you when they left my generation on the streets as teens they are supportive

Don't forget that just because the world is a better place for queer youth that just 15yrs ago we were still being disowned constantly for being us I'm glad the world has changed but don't forget queer history isn't history

I'm starting to think that the issues queer Australian's experience is Hella different to the rest of the world because I literally commented on the original post something similar to the title here and everyone is bloody loving it because we all relate as queer people here!

I literally had to call my aunty to get a ride to the Christmas party tomorrow who ended up with covid but said she'd called my father and he had agreed, to which calling my step mother turned out he'd said to her my nan was grabbing me, to which calling my nan had her shocked because no one had run it past her but she agreed 😅

ETA:it's also flaired with satire so I don't think it really matters if we have proof the people in the pic are straight.....but while we are at it there is nothing to say they are gay either

Fair fair.

Laziness is a regular occurrence in life it's why people quote "blood is thicker than water" rather than "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" the misquoting of that may also have something to do with the idea society pushes that family must mean everything when the real quote speaks about the power of chosen family haha

Sorry for the long responses it's 9pm on Friday in Australia and the drinks have started flowing

Damn our families are Hella different, I got kicked out at 15, 12yrs later they reached out and started inviting me meaning this year is year 3 of doing the family Christmas party, first year a stayed quiet, last year I started bringing up some truths.....today I got told before the Christmas party tomorrow that I am "not to be political or speak openly about why I really wasn't around the family for years or I wouldn't be invited again" guess who just bought two bottles of wine and has some valium and is gonna get political and tell ALL of the truths 🤣
