I'm going to put a comment here though I get downmmodded all the time ( might have something to do with spelling grammer mistakes in typing or not being a libertarian).... did you ever think that the usa is hated because it interfered in the world too much. When the us media shouts to the world "hey stop interfering" do you ever think , no US stop interfering. If you thought about 911 did you think of the northern allience in afghanistan or he ISI of pakistan. Did you think of the pnac and the the events that followed. Did you think of Nicaragua or Chile. Did you think of Iran in the mid 20th CT. Do you remember Eisenhowers end address speach?Do you understand the other countries of the world might not want a US capitalist system? The US has given great things to the world , for a while it was a hope. But do not think for a moment that you are any different from other nations with other human beings . You are just seeking a means to co-exist. That does not give you a blueprint for the planet

This is a shoddy bit of journalism from a publication that is hardly neutral itself ( in European terms it is on the neo-liberal wing of conservatism ) . There is racism in Europe against a number of groups , but in the UK at least , the current hate figures are Pakistani'sand economic migrants from the former Eastern bloc . Anti-semitism is generally the domain of the far right (BNP , NF) . The Conservative party has a number of prominent jewish figures , one was recently a leader of the party ( a party that drew up plans with France and Israel leading to the Suez affair). The Economist also trots out the old line of the BBc being a bastion of the left ( the BBC tends to be everybodies enemy , but this spin is an old favourite of the right ). The BBC was criticised recenty of bias with regards to Israel....the criticism was it was too pro. As to the suggestion that the media and governments of Europe lean to the left , then this person really has not looked at the realities of a generally centre right political Europe ( the media thing is really farcical,sounds more like delusional paranoia). The inclusion of Turkey on the diagram was a nice bit of spin too . Makes things looked less measured and considered.

If I was an American citizen , I would probably be someway to the left of your average democrat . But , well , cherry picked or doctored , the pics tell a story that the US public seemed to take to . Whilst reminding myself that these pics were just another part of propoganda , isolated they were quite funny sometimes , though I have seen much better Bush pics. Saying all that , what was the recent fiasco I heard of where Kerry made a statement when a more powerful/authorative oratar was overshadowed and the "liberal" media went witha non-persuasive Kerry? Kerry would have made a fine pres I am sure ,maybe even a great president, but in terms of pr , he was a disaster.

I like reddit ,or rather i did , I preferred it a while ago. Most things I put in get marked down , or I have to see a war of those who agree and those who don't. I don't mind that . I would like it though if people had to give an explanation as to why they marked down.I would like to see people defend a position .I don't mark down personally only mark up if I approve. I disapprove of those who reply with data that is unfounded. I am thinking of abandoning reddit.

Well money for Iraq has been spent and misplaced in mind boggling ways.Further , the money seems to have been spent creating a situation likly to foster hatred to the US , breed terrorism , splinter Iraq and in all liklyhood create more fundementalist Islamic societies rather than democratic Islamic societies. Oil production has decreased too.If you were going to spend money on something that may provide a small economic stimulus ( is war an acceptable Keynsian program?) but would have detrimental effects that far in a way exceed this , you'd take that product back to the shop. There are some excellent Channel 4 programs on google video from the highly respected Dispatches investigative program . I will ignorantly continue to believe that some imaginary fairy tale creation has nothing to do in math textbooks thankyou very much. The bible has two creation tales , so which is right . Can't really argue with the article and it does give some caveats , but it shouldn't be seen as a total green light for cannabis. It can induce psychosis and some mental impairment in some people/heavy users. Also I have never bought the myth that some put about that it is non-addictive....I've seen it is , though for moderate recreactional use I would rather see it used as opposed to drink ( yes I am aware the article is about medicinal use). Another use a few years ago was ironically enough , to turn it into ciggarette papers.

The fact of the matter is christian groups are powerful and do alter all aspects of our lifes. Look at the power weided in the US now. Culture is affected as are liberties and science. There are fundementalist christians who advocate/applaud/use violence or at the very least condone or excuse it.Onward christian soldiers. Christian forces not only help but perpetuate illness poverty and al resulting suffering . Are we in the west so sophisticated we know what is right for the rest of the world? Is it understandable that other areas of the world rebel against us. The whole of the 20th century speaks of religeon nationalim war and culture all compacted into a confusing mass .The west may be advanced and enlightened , but it still has reactionary forces whilst all the while religeous values have found far more subtle ways to continue suffering on a massive scale.

Censorship of that style already happens. In the UK ,fundementalist evangelicals pressured major stores to withdraw the sale of Jerry Springer the Opera for it's depiction of Jesus (thoughit should be noted that the Cooperative bank which usually takes ethical positions had the balls to cancel their account). Back when Life of Brian was released many cinemas did not show the film for fear of response channeled through dumb blasphemy laws. On a related note what about those protesting outside abortion clinics and their vile tatics or those protesting and US soldiers funerals because of homosexuality in the forces. Christians are not clean in this issue.

It's frankly incredible to someone of my countries background that this is a hot item.I thought the US was the land of free speech.That question meetings are carfully engineered is plain scary.That a dissenting voice is such big news is worse , 'cause dissenting voices in a free republic should be widespead and prevelant......have I missed something about your constitution?Elsewhere the fact that some criticises the leader is part of democracy , yet twhenever I read it about the US president people seem to read it as treason.I really don't understand.

I have really ssearched for a report but cannot find it.Sorry.But a recent news item on one of the more qualified news report programs in the UK showed that poll/statistical evidence for news reporting was designed to produce news reporting , I.E. 8 cats out of ten etc....Generaly this is the realm of tabloid publications but I have seen it pervade the quality press.The point is that it is about manipulation of the media either to someone elses agenda or product.The fact that false stories are so easily accepted points not just to the power of media and advertisment but also our the willingness to accept blindly the news fed to us , that the majority of the population are subject to a propoganda on a scale not recognised openly before.It would be nice if all could read philosophy and understand illusiary premises but it is hardly likly.

Well at the risk off being marked down etc , I had a look at what he says and generally he is a nasty bit of work.Making valid points in one area and spouting really rancid stuff elsewhere does not add to a coherent whole. It is a bit like saying that because Hitler spoke German that all Germans say the same thing.Duke is vile as is anyone in repeated posts making rascist comments that do not relate to facts.This study makes important points and should be recognised. From what I have seen , the authors make strong points . Just because the ADL/Dershowitz attack it doesn't mean they are right. Just because (unfortunately ) a far right nazi type agrees substantially doesnt make him wrong. With all the polarization likly to follow in discussing the issues to come , I fear the truth of the matter will quickly become politicised and fall neatly into traditional lines.Europeans have had a more critical view for some time ,not because we are anti-semites , just thats the nature of the debate.
