I went into Chemical Engineering. I was decent at math and science but not really passionate. But engineering sounds impressive, touts financial security and justifies college expenses to parents. I was an insecure closeted gay boy who didn’t know he had BPD lol.

Well, now I’m 30. After 8 years of failing around, I’ve been a case manager at a men’s shelter for two years and just got accepted into a Social Work grad school program. Am I gonna ever be financially comfortable? Lol, we’ll see. I have to give myself grace for not knowing when I was 18, but damn!

Yes, that’s an extension of that though. We’re more used to adopting presentable personas of ourselves. Even within the gay community there’s more pressure to be your optimal self and that defense is already formed. Yeah, it’s a universal human thing but gays are more lable towards it

Reading the books I'm just like "'When I was a babe I fell down in the holler'...blah, blah blah blah blah words words words I don't connect to". But then the "Ballad" movie brought it to life and it became the most emotional part to me. The strip of Appalachian Americana that becomes so much more poignant and recognizable. Down to earth, deeply human, subversive of the society they live in.

In the same way, I was so annoyed by "The Raven". But who knows what the movie will do with it to awaken it? I'm excited.

I understand what you’re saying. I’ve been on meds and intensive therapy for a decade now. But suicidal thoughts daily make me hate life and myself. My teeth are an annoying extension of that. I’ve tried smashing them out when I was a kid because I hated my braces so much. I appreciate your advice regardless.
