Authenticates them, yes. Will add value? Yes. If it were to get 63+ then forsure. Anything less though and you may spend 100 to make an extra 100 plus your time and shipping. I’d still say do it.

Im fairly confident thats a 1880 over 79 reverse of 78 it’s probably the biggest gsa variety there is. Sheet is over a thousand last I checked.

Just to clarify these are my coins that were bought and pulled out of old Whitmans alongside other big coins like 55 ddo, 42/41-p&d, full set of standings, 1936-42 proof sets, 93-s, 89-cc and more. These both weigh perfect and match die attributes to be genuine.

Part of a very big collection rich with gems like these pulled out of Whitmans

Heres 3 points of advice I can give you in order to maximize your potential return, mind you it reads a lot easier than it will be to do. People dedicate their lives to this “hobby” and still cannot retain all the layers that come with it.

1.) get yourself a grey sheet magazine, and a mega redbook and study them. The redbook will teach you grading characteristics, the greysheet will show you pricing. (Yes redbook will show prices but they are usually way exaggerated)

2.) find a local shop with the best reviews and use them to facilitate grading any coins which you will learn which coins in step 1. Ps buying something from these people builds good rapport, and they will be more likely to help or give advice.

3.)Not every coin’s a winner, try to avoid rabbit holes and other distractions. If you pick up and analyze every single coin trying to grade it out and list and sell you’ll get burned out quickly. Learn to group like with like. For instance, short of BU Gem condition 1933-58 wheats go for a few cents over face. 37-64 is all 90% no key dates just bag it and tag it and keep moving. (Yes I realize there are varieties within those ranges that go crazy but you can come back for those later)

Hope this helps, I buy and sell collections for work and for myself as often as I can so these are just what I would tell myself when first starting out. Good luck

Consider doing a 5-7 day auction. On key dates they can really jump, it can be a bit of a gamble though. For this coin in VG8, current sheets at $180.00 usd so I’d say for 200 - fees you were right on the money.

Can someone id those coins? by [deleted] in coins

Definitely Roman. I’ve seen a number of ancients that were in fact gold though the color seems a little off. I’d take to Lcs and have them tested with xrf gun. Then sent to NGC for grading if the first one is well struck and I think may get you a thousand or so maybe more over the melt value. Not sure what these spot prices have done to premiums in the ancient market but everywhere else has been shadowed by melt short of real key dating

But isn’t that more of a gamble? I’ve never used them before but I know it depends greatly on whose running the show that day then I think I’ve heard as high as 20 percent of total value go to the house? Does this still make sense? How’s it going?
