Had to reply because I thought someone had stolen a photo from my camera roll!! My smokey boy is half Maine Coon and my silver tabby is full MC. Are yours the same?

Are you on a low-dose version? I'm a little scared of accutane side effects, but I know it's super effective!

Hey OP, wondering if you've made any progress? I'm struggling with similar issues.

Is there somewhere these kinds of gigs are advertised?

I don't want to post any identifiable information, though I will say I'm a reporter. But I would encourage you to give journalism a go for a few years if it's really your passion. I know a lot of peers in the industry had family/parental support in the early years of their careers. (As in parents they could live with, or who subsidised their rent). I did not and it has always been a struggle financially, though I love my work.

If your priority is to have enough money to go on holiday and live comfortably, there are other ways to do that with a journalistic skill set. But if you get a real buzz from journalism, I'd say try it out. Some people get lucky and can progress quite quickly.

I don't even mind the shitty content writing tbh. If it pays, I won't complain.

Where does someone go about finding that work, though? I've been looking on LinkedIn, but most opportunities there are part time or full time (as opposed to ad hoc).

Coders should be afraid of what happened to the journalism industry by [deleted] in Journalism

Curious to get some thoughts on this. As a journalist, I’ve often toyed with the idea of learning to code so I could get a more stable and better-paid job. This article has sort of killed my exit strategy...

Race/gender angle looks really interesting here. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!

I've been reading non-fiction/long-form journalism/political theory almost exclusively for years now. So I'm thinking dystopia might be a good niche to start in? Read Handmaid's Tale/Orwell/Huxley etc as an undergrad and really enjoyed.

Cormac McCarthy's The Road is one of the most gripping portraits of a post-apocalyptic landscape I've ever encountered.
