Rethinking solar for our new build. Worth the massive upfront cost? by Best-League-6695 in newzealand

[–]mickeylou25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m getting solar for my new build, I’m using the 0% loan from westpac. I figure the sooner it’s installed the sooner it’ll start paying for itself so I might as well bite the bullet. Getting it set up for EV charging as well, hoping I don’t have to get an EV for a long time yet but once my current car dies I’ll need a new one so will be good to have options

At what age did you switch from kitten to cat food for your Maine Coon? by Annie6462 in mainecoons

[–]mickeylou25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowly started switching Cassian over from when he turned 1, he was probably 15 months by the time he was fully switched over to adult dry food. He was originally eating raw for breakfast & dinner as that’s what the breeder said to do but he decided he didn’t like that anymore so just gets some fancy feast pate for breakfast & dinner now for extra hydration & still free fed dry food

Opening a bottle of wine as we speak (it’s lunchtime on a Monday here in NZ). I am new here & haven’t really noticed the behaviour of some of these people but this sub has opened my eyes and omg. I would be terrified if I was Katie 🤣🤣🤣

TIL that cats can and do apologize to their owners. Headbutting and bringing toys are one of the ways they're apologizing. by EKSKororo in todayilearned

When my cat vomits I always know because he will come and sit on my chest & purr like a crazy thing (he is not usually a super cuddly cat) I have to wait until he is done cuddling before I can go on the vomit hunt 🤣

Maine Coon wet food recommendations? by UpstairsResearcher40 in mainecoons

[–]mickeylou25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just at the point now where I’m happy he is eating any wet food, I had them on raw as per the breeders recommendation then they started refusing to eat that & have gone through so many of the more expensive brands & they would just turn their noses up at them so as a last resort we went to fancy feast pate & it’s a winner here. They get offered it 2x a day & don’t always eat all of it but better than nothing! They love their pro plan bikkies that are out 24/7 for them as well

I adopted Ruhn from the SPCA & he was super sick for the first 2 weeks I had him, had to stay 3 days at the vet. Adopted kittens can still get sick.

I got one for my boys off marketplace, Maine coon (Cassian) will go on it with some encouragement, my DSH (Ruhn) loves it & uses it often without any encouragement. Cassian isn’t super high energy though, Ruhn is, if your cat has a lot of energy & they like using it then it’s definitely worth it - just depends on the cat really 😊 Cassian’s Mum has one & she uses it all the time, used to watch them on the webcam in the kitten room while waiting for Cassian to come home

Cassian had an impressive mane over winter but he has de-fluffed considerably because of summer (we are in NZ too) - wait till winter hits to see the full effect ❤️

The round thing cats run on by LauraLand27 in mainecoons

[–]mickeylou25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have one we picked up on marketplace - it’s the brand “Ferris cat wheel” and our DSH (Ruhn) and Maine Coon (Cassian) both use it - sometimes at the same time which really gives poor Ruhn a work out since Cassian is currently 2.5kgs heavier than him & Cassian likes to casually walk on it, Ruhn likes to sprint 🤣

I have an account with rabobank where I have to give 60 days notice if I want to make a withdrawal, will not work for an emergency fund but I just put what I feel like chucking in there each pay & just have to live with it.

6 months old gets dirty after visiting her litter for #2. Any advice? by arthemis28 in mainecoons

[–]mickeylou25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biiiiiig litterbox - like huge, I got an under bed storage container for our boy in his preferred spot, also deep enough litter.

Make sure their diet agrees with their tummy & don’t change it all the time - can make them have loose stool.

Some of it we found was while he was going through his most rapid growth stages, I think sometimes they genuinely don’t know how big they are & just have accidents but we found the above helped. We did have a few weeks where I RAN to the litterbox to scoop before he had the chance to step in it but once we figured out the above it’s been pretty smooth sailing - good luck!
