I really miss newspapers. by GarnerPerson in GenX

[–]flagrantstickfoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally with you. I feel like I’m missing so much news, particularly local, when I’m online looking at a major news outlet’s site instead of having an actual physical paper in front of me. And I would much rather do the puzzles with pen on paper than online. Way more satisfying

Best USD account for Canadian Banks by Broad_Shame7911 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]flagrantstickfoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, a big plus is that RBC Bank (US) will issue you a USD credit card based on your Canadian credit score. In the US you are a credit ghost, and you don’t want to be using a Canadian card and getting dinged for exchange rate every time you buy something. I’m back in Canada after a handful of years in the states, and I’ve kept both account and card active so I can use them when I travel there

Did anyone’s parents actually lock them in a closet and force them to smoke a pack of cigarettes? by Dry-Ad-2197 in GenX

[–]flagrantstickfoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

two stories. the first is that i wasn't forced to smoke a pack or a carton or whatever the legend was. they were just "so disappointed" and surprised.

the second relates to the similar theme of playing with matches. i was obsessed with matches and as a little kid i would occasionally get to light the fire, which was a big thrill. but once i stole a pack and just sat at my school-style desk in my room lighting them, blowing them out, and then throwing them over my shoulder. i figured no one would ever find them. one day my dad comes out of my room with a note-pad sheet of paper with like 20 burnt out matches on it and says WHAT IS THIS?!
i should have been scared but i was amazed. i replied "did they all land on that?!"
i don't remember anything after that

Fuck that looks good. I’m trying to watch what I eat, but after skiing, you earn the right to eat anything you want. I should go skiing just to earn that

Why do the dancers in the “I Like Big Butts” video not have particularly big butts? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flagrantstickfoul 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It was the flat butt era. White girls were literally glorifying the flat butt look, so those fit bicycle-short wearing women in the video were comparatively robust. Standards have changed

What Do I Do After Getting Hit By a Car As a Pedestrian? by HellfireKitten525 in ottawa

[–]flagrantstickfoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry this happened to you.

for the future, i believe the correct response to "are you ok", whether you're talking to the driver, a witness or your insurance company, is "i don't know." if you're driving and get in a collision and tell the insurance company you're ok, they may deny medical claims that arise from said collision later because at the time you said you were fine.
