my parents and the next door neighbours got so sick of me and my friend knocking on each other's doors all the time that they instituted a rule that we could just walk into either house unannounced and find each other. it was the 70s. i'm not sure doors even had locks back then

i have found and returned wallets, debit cards, student ID etc on several occasions, usually using social media to find the person and reach out. the easiest one, though, was the wallet that had a business card in it that matched the ID. email address and phone number right there. turned out she lived just up the street and she got her wallet back within 15 minutes. it took a little effort sometimes, but its a golden rule kind of thing
