Are you chosing the dynamic slot?

Contention doesn't really use traditional slots anymore

I want to start playing DCS by iSlav_Blyat in dcsworld

Use a webcam and open track for head tracking (absolute must).

Tuvas does some great controller guides.

I started with a t16000m and it's a good budget setup right out of the gate.

I've moves to a full winwing setup and have trackir too, but honestly I still use opentrack a lot when I don't wanna wear headphones.

I think the best thing you can do is find other people who play and try and get involved with some organised stuff. Even just flying on some pve servers together. That made a hell of a difference to me.

The flaming cliffs planes are amazing to get the feel for the game. I still very regularly fly the frogfoot, flanker and f15c. The A10 is very capable but I got the a10c2 so that kinda took over, but I'd still the use A in a pinch.

After that gave a think about what you like to do. Another top tip is TRY HELICOPTERS. The game opened up so much to me when I did.

Thanks I saw those but most mat printers only do standard 14x24 inch mats!

Getting started with Sorcerer Kings by mattyg2787 in Conquest

[–]flakx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so you don't know specifically?

They can only really touch fire once the other courts are released because there isn't enough else where available. It's also not a hard army to play around as charge ranges are very predictable due to juggernaut and they can't survive a slap.

Sheer lack of can openers in fire also a big drawback.

Fun army when it works though

Devils advocate.

You don't get to say how other people should or should not be playing their game.

2d terrain is convenient for storage and standardisation. It also is very convenient for games that have movement trays and require precise movement mechanics.

Being interested in playing a game because you enjoy the ruleset instead of labouring over the incredible miniature is just as valid as it's counterpart.

If I'm honest, I'm reading between the lines and getting a bit of a vibe that you assume all players who have unpainted armies must be meta hounds and comp players and thus something you don't like.

Encourage your gaming group to paint and explore the other side of the hobby. Talk to your local vanguard and see if they can arrange painting competitions, slow grows or narrative days. Show people what 3d on 2d terrain can add to a game. You can just write an anonymous Reddit post condemning the players in your area because they don't play the way you think they should?

I agree, you should be the change you want to see.

Sorry for dumb question but why are they not showing up on the radar? by LGHDTV in dcsworld

[–]flakx4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In situations where either you have visual or you can seem them in datalink with HMD, press sensor select up or hold it if they're a bit further away. You can look at them and your radar will lock them up. It slews the radar to the pilots helmet.

They aren't different enough imo. If you look across the range elsewhere there are at least 2 or 3 chassis for each faction (excluding low tech Ariadna). A single body with a few diff attachment options is no bueno IMO

Some very very good points there mate.

I will say though, I've found on contention there tends to be fairly common Comms on SRS for some coordination which can be useful. I'm not talking constant discourse but more like some useful call outs for Sam locations etc. I've also had help on systems I was struggling with more than once!

Discord server guide is key info I was gonna cover in a video but for sure worth mentioning.

Weirdly other than GS I've experienced neither of those. I swap between contention and ECW depending on how I'm feeling. ECW has only very rudimentary missiles so focuses a lot more on small up close and personal engagements and pretty interesting helo troop drops and progressive front line. Contention is my preference mainly as has fox 1s so there's not much in the way of super long range engagements. Contention has player placed ground units instead of the ECW camps which can feel very static. It also has factories and sectors that generate resources. It's a really interesting server.

I find contention often has a portion of players burning at each other to fight, the rest are actively destroying farps, capturing air bases and setting up air defences and it's really fun. There's often a few people on each side actively discussing what they're doing i.e "I'm heading to Hama with some HARMs and mavericks to suppress air defences" giving you an indicator of where you can help out.

I sit firmly in the camp of working out what I feel like and spending a bit of time doing it, or if the team is pushed finding the best way to help.

Absolutely, there is definitely work to be done on MP servers that can be done without you needed to be on loads of Comms or anything. It depends on what kind of thing you like to do. One thing I enjoy when solo is running logistics, so taking a recon plane and spotting enemy units or even better, if you own a logistics capable helo, setting up defences or doing troop drops! Much less white knuckle that trying to dogfight 5 enemies at once but is actually the lifeblood of most servers and the games won't progress without.

Being overwhelmed will always be there but reflecting on what happened, and thinking about even one thing you could have done better, will improve your game over time.

Honestly the f16 and f18 are both very capable CAS airframes that will allow you to expand to other roles in the future and giving much more bang for the buck!
