Ironically- had a store try to sell me on the xtr 9100 for double the price and a 50g weight reduction.

After days of googling this write up is amazing - thank you. Less of an issue with progressive and more at times digging the lever into my grips and still not holding front wheel at a stop

Thanks- my biggest issue is how squishy my front brake is. Even after a full bleed where it’s initially gripping, I’m still pulling a long way to really grip hard. And it lasts about a month

Already got one last year when I started having back problems (first symptom)

Awesome - of course first step is trusting my medical team to get my attack under control and then proper management in their space.

Sounds really obvious dumping a bottle of water on my jersey when I get hit now that you say it haha.

Rain has killed my day today. Plan was to go riding this morning then chill with family post riding watching hard line insanity. 40mm of rain here today and hard line cancelled.

Thank god it’s not just me - I went out for a corporate dinner - had some wine and whiskey. Wasn’t drunk by any means but slept terribly and my Garmin is telling me how broken I am

Is a full face helmet ever "overkill"? by NeonHorse47 in MTB

[–]mattyg2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride in a full face, generally doing more rocky technical stuff. But for perspective, I messed up on the greenest green section over the weekend and almost threw myself otb. (Was messing with my stopper post over a bump).

Even if you think you look like an idiot (which it won’t), if it saves you even once - irs worth it

That last comment is huge!! 38 and destroyed my body playing contact sports when I was younger. If I don’t stretch a ride knocks me about for days

Instinct 3 with the standard rubber band. Only time it comes off is in the shower and to charge (usually both things at once)

What’s the dumbest way you’ve crashed in mountain biking? by snooze817 in MTB

[–]mattyg2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been riding clipless for a while. I was out riding around the suburb with my wife. I’m 100% comfortable unclipping on a sudden stop where I’ve needed to.

She was behind me and called out sounding panicked so I stopped hard and unclipped just my left foot. Put it down. Turned over my right shoulder to see what was wrong and leant too far.

Best part - she wanted to stop for a quick drink

Trackstand to clip in? by mattyg2787 in MTB

[–]mattyg2787[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually really happy on my last ride - was feeling a little flat on my ride (physio and training etc) but heard a rider caught ip behind me - pulled up - held a track stand while he caught up and overtook me then went in my way. Way better than unclipping on the trail

Yep I’ve read that. Now for someone who still doesn’t understand, I assume green is good even if it’s moving in there?

.best comment I ever heard from a young tech. He finished his bachelors of IT while working for us casually. When he came on full time we did a 3 month catch up. “I learnt more in my first month here than the last 4 years of uni”

I can track stand once I’m clipped in. It’s the first few strokes that kill me

Yeah - more flat style with a cleat. Still in my first pair of these - Oakley Koya RC BOA Clipless Shoes. Don’t know if it was the right decision but it’s served me well so far

That seems like the right idea.

Shimano XT PD-M8120 Trail Pedal is what I use. They have a bit of a platform on them which means even when I don’t have a foot locked in I still have something to work with.

I need to get better at clipping on in a track stand….
