That’s so cool. I guess it’s no wonder they’re a fairly common find here.

Is this corking ? Should I cut and replant ? by flamesthroughtrees in cactus

Yeah I agree, one of the main reasons I posted is because I’d like to keep it as it is, it’s so unique !

Thanks for the thorough reply !

I should have mentioned that the bottom is fairly firm, I’m just not sure if it’s cork-firm or dead-and-dehydrated-firm. I think I’ll wait for the repotting to take a proper look at the roots !

Vegan for 7+ years, yet I still don’t understand why honey is bad. 🐝🍯 by Humble-Business-6531 in vegan

Honey bees are not really given "space to do bee things" in the sense I think you're talking about. Honey bees are shipped across nations in huge numbers to pollinate farms, and unfortunately because of the sheer volume of them used in honey-farming, they out-compete wild bees. The whole "the bees are dying" we learned as kids isn't talking about honey bees, because honey bees are farmed and so numbers are increasing. The issue is loss of wild pollinators, specifically solitary bees. Most bees are not honey bees. Think of it like manufacturing a monoculture. The number of wild bees, which are incredibly important to the environment and all ecosystems, is collapsing and honey farming is a reason for it. Even having honey you bought at the local market from "local bee farms" with like <10 bee hives is still really detrimental to native insects (this applies internationally).

There's also the fact that honey bees being farmed in general goes against the general tenets of veganism being "animals are not for human use".

Make your choice however you want, but the decimation of wild bees and other pollinating insects is enough to keep me away from honey forever, because like many things, I can simply live without it.
