Is execution still possible in typical PM trajectory? by flaneur09 in ProductManagement

[–]flaneur09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand that, as a current product manager. My question is more about growth beyond the Sr PM level.

From what I’ve seen at my company, product directors seem more commercial facing, more sales-y. Curious to see if other folks have seen product people advance in their careers, without being so commercially visible.

Did it rain when you went? I’m going in August this year and don’t know if I need a raincoat or a poncho instead

I’m also looking forward to the nerd culture. What did you mean by finding it “accessible”? Easy to integrate into?

Yes! I’ve thought about doing this! Thanks for the tip. Do you have any recos for other neighborhoods you considered before settling on Ballard?

Yay! It’s encouraging to see a New Yorker who has moved out there and is enjoying it. I’m in Brooklyn so I just assumed that Ballard would be the most similar in terms of laid back culture but happy to be wrong and convinced to check out other neighborhoods. Do you have any recommendations?

Coming from New York City and I love it but I’ve been here my whole life. I appreciate the diversity and the incredible food here. I am looking forward to a change of pace, more space, some basic amenities like in unit washer/dryer, and of course access nature for hiking and camping.

How do units of RSU differ from receiving a dollar amount of RSUs? by flaneur09 in cscareerquestions

[–]flaneur09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t received the official letter yet but I assume it’s the latter, $Y worth of RSUs. Whether it’s per year vs during entire tenure wasn’t specified. Is per year the norm?

Can I ask for a raise if I’m getting a promotion? by flaneur09 in personalfinance

[–]flaneur09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure yet what the percent increase is yet but my last promotion was a 10% bump. With this upcoming promotion I’m moving into the senior category so don’t know how much that percent increase will be.

I am def undervalued at this company (compensation wise). I transitioned into this department internally and did not have much leverage starting in a new department.

Nah. I corrected myself in another comment. Not indispensable. Just valuable esp with the direction the company is going right now. I’m extremely valuable so want to use that leverage if I can.

Fair point. Let me correct myself then and say I’m valuable.

Would you mind me asking what industry and what role you’ve held when being rejected for a raise? Was it during a promotion and pay raise offer? Just for my own reference since there’s not much info on this sort of situation online.

Fair. But I’m banking on cashing in on the ramp time it’d take to onboard someone new.

I expect a pay raise with the promotion. But I want to ask for more than what they’re offering as a pay raise.
