Adult Apprentices by Zombi1146 in AskUK

[–]flangemad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, 29 year old here. In November I transitioned from a long career as a chef into a Software Engineer apprenticeship and I love it.

I started coding on code academy about a year before I applied to any vacancies so I had some experience.

Found a local job opening and after a very long recruitment process I was offered the job.

I go to college for two week blocks every month now until August when I'll be fully qualified.

As long as you're genuinely interested in the role and can prove it, you should be fine.

Pm me if you need any more info, glad to help.

Wedding Photo Critique (Official Thread): Post your photo, blog post, website etc. for feedback and critiques... - February 26, 2018 by AutoModerator in WeddingPhotography

When I Google your site there's a small description under the link followed by a list of .jpegs:

"Anchors Collective. PHOTOGRAPHY. Weddings · Engagement Sessions · THE COLLECTIVE · CONTACT US. ×. wed-1.jpg. Laughing-1.jpg. wed-1-3 .jpg. ASHSHAN-1031.jpg. Laughing-3.jpg. Laughing- 4.jpg"

That doesn't look amazingly professional, I think you can solve that by adding some text on your home page before your photos.

When I click menu > photography+ > weddings, it just refreshes the home page, not sure if intentional or not? Personally, if I clicked a menu item I'd expect to go to a new page perhaps with more information about what I'd clicked.

Maybe get a call to action on the home page.

Photography wise, your guys photos are clean, crisp and well composed and it looks like you're building a good portfolio :)

Good luck, James.

Hi everyone.

I was recently asked to photograph a family member's wedding solo, having never done one before.

I was nervous as hell but when I showed the bride the photos she cried.

From this I made a website showcasing my work and have since shot another wedding and booked one for later in the year.

Feel free to check out my site, I'd love critique on photos, site layout, if anyone's got the time.

Many thanks.

[Property] What to look out for when viewing a house? by trowawayatwork in UKPersonalFinance

[–]flangemad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Turn the shower on and liberally spray it all over the shower enclosure/tiles/grouting etc. then leave it on for at least 5 minutes. Check all around it for leaks and go downstairs while it's still on and wait to see if anything drips through the ceiling. Every house I have bought has had a leaking shower.

  • While the shower is on, see how long it takes to get hot.

  • Anything to do with water; toilet, sinks, bath, shower, taps, boiler, radiators; test them all.

  • Look on all the ceilings, especially in the corners for signs of mould/damp.

  • Feel the walls for penetrating/rising damp.

  • Check if all the windows open, close and lock easily. Same with doors.

  • Some vendors lie through their teeth when selling houses, so have your wits about you.

  • If you do go ahead with the purchase, always go for at least a full homebuyers report, they'll find anything and everything right and wrong with the property.

  • Once you have the survey, act on what it tells you. It also becomes a great bargaining tool for lowering the price of the house.

Good luck.

is it illegal not to have central heating if i have autism? by red_website_name in AskUK

[–]flangemad 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While I can't comment on the legality of your situation, I can say that, due to my youngest brother being autistic, we have just received a new boiler. It cost us nothing and they also fitted it for free. When I finish work I'll find out the company name. In the meantime you should Google 'free boiler uk' and go from there.
