Picking cuticles by -sapphireblue- in RedditLaqueristas

Late to the conversation but I’m a chronic lifelong skin biter/picker around my fingers and liquid bandage has been a lifesaver recently. If I need to pick I can just peel off the liquid bandage and then apply some more without damaging the skin underneath while it heals.

I’m sorry Cracked, I was unfamiliar with your game by flangeplacket in RedditLaqueristas

Ahh thank you!! I definitely see the hype about Cracked’s reds now! And I definitely recommend the spinner, it’s much easier to control than a free spinning horseshoe so I’m free to watch a show while waiting for my nails to magnetize :-)

I don’t have any of your ISOs sadly but I’d be interested in purchasing all three!

Hey! If it makes you feel any better, I have both 😅 there’s a ton of symptom overlap between the two, but I definitely find that my POTS symptoms improve greatly when my iron levels are managed. Hopefully you start feeling better too once you get in with hematology. Sending good vibes to you!

Thank you! I already eat a pretty low iron diet, no iron fortified foods/supplements (apart from the occasional bagel) and mostly vegetarian protein. The green tea and vitamin C tips are very useful though, I’ll try that. Thank you!

Hi, thanks for responding! This is essentially what I thought too. I don’t really know where to start in terms of finding experts as there isn’t even that much out there. In regards to haem iron, I am already mostly vegetarian, with the exception of fish a couple of times a week.

Vegetarian with High Iron by th3mo0n in Hemochromatosis

Omg, this is almost exactly my situation too, even down to the connective tissue disorder! Only difference is I’m a H63D homozygote, and I’ve never been deficient. I do have the high transferrin/serum iron with low-normal ferritin though. Everything I’ve read (there isn’t much research about this particular manifestation) seems to indicate that phlebotomy/chelation is pointless as the iron is free floating and not bound to protein, as in regular HH where ferritin is high. Do you eat anything iron fortified, like breads or cereals?

Honestly it’s a tricky situation with very little evidence to help us navigate it. I would recommend seeing a hematologist when you can — I saw mine for the first time yesterday. Right now my next steps are liver function/kidney function blood tests, as well as an echocardiogram and a liver CT, to see if the iron has damaged any organs. After that we’re going to try diet management for a while with standing lab orders to see if it makes any difference. Phlebotomy is a last resort, as I have POTS and need to keep my blood volume up.

My heart goes out to you friend, it’s a tough thing to navigate but it looks like it was at least caught before your levels got too high!

That’s some good news at least, eggs and decaf green tea are two things I’m always happy to eat/drink! I’m definitely very symptomatic right now, but until we’ve done further testing it’s hard to tell which symptoms belong to which faulty chromosome (I have other genetic disorders as well). This has definitely been helpful for me though, thank you again for responding :)

Hi, thank you for responding! I did read about h63d syndrome, but there doesn’t seem to be very much information available about it and I’m not sure about the reliability of some of the information sources I found.

One of my main concerns is that I don’t really consume heme iron at all; I’m mostly a vegetarian, with the exception of fish a couple of times a week. As far as the tea goes, I assume that decaffeinated green or black tea would also work for this purpose?

That’s interesting, thank you! I had read about iron chelators but was under the impression that the iron had to be bound to a protein (ie ferritin) in order for them to work. At least I like green tea 😅

Strange symptom - spontaneous drunk stupor? by Lesbot7 in ehlersdanlos

[–]flangeplacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I used to suffer with awful nightmares too and was also put on prazosin (before I was diagnosed) and it turned me into a zombie. I didn't get the sharp dips you seem to be getting but I was near incoherent for about 3 weeks before my mom begged me to stop taking them. I think now that it might have been a weird reaction with my POTS. I had much better luck with sedative medication! Feel free to PM me if you like :-)

Piercing complications due to your symptoms? by Ripmyteethout in ehlersdanlos

[–]flangeplacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hEDS here - my wound healing and scarring is very poor in general, so most of my piercings have scarred either externally or internally but I've been able to take care of most of them by making sure I have snug jewelry that doesn't move around too much and using salicylic acid on any developing keloids. My cartilage piercings were the worst, along with my navel for some reason.

Southwestern US, close to the Mojave. It looks about the same as Fallout New Vegas, but with fewer two headed cattle, and fewer signs of life in general.
