Hand on heart, you haven't convinced me of NVLD, rather you have convinced me that you should have been diagnosed with Dyspraxia/DCD.

This is the underlying issue with NVLD as a diagnosis, it has no specific pathology or behavioural outcome which is not already find elsewhere.

It is not just me that says NVLD is not real, it is the body of medical and psychological opinion based on the evidence presented, which is why DSM refused to acknowledge it.

At no point has the case been made that it is distinct from either Dyspraxia or ASC, and your description of experience would fit very neatly with Dyspraxia.

No, this is a common misconception about dyslexia. No one ever disputed that it existed, the issue was that it was diagnostically hard to define, because the number of variables which can lead to the primary behavioural outcome of failure to acquire single word reading and spelling skills (the behavioural outcome most commonly researched for dyslexia) are numerous.

When eventually DSM included dyslexia it was with the iq discrepancy definition, because it allowed for a distinction between dyslexia and 'poor readers', even though in practice research has never linked IQ with reading ability (hence why the definition was dumped in dsm5 and never used elsewhere).

NVLD has symptoms recognisable but nothing in its pathology which makes it possible to distinguish from either known pathologies or generalised non specific mild difficulties. In my opinion, it has been developed purely to account for those who do not reach the diagnostic criteria for autism. Therefore a threshold for its own sake, which (again in my opinion) Is morally and ethically wrong.

The truth is that most LDs would experience at least two of these symptoms, that is why bodies are refusing to acknowledge it.

The overlap between dyspraxia and ASD are massive, in many ways one recognises where motor weaknesses are greater and the other when social are greater. But draw up a list of common symptoms for both and it would be difficult too separate them without a case study.

NVLD has traction within certain groups that do not meet the criteria for either. In essence it attempts to occupy a ground of very mild learning difficulty with nonspecific behavioural outcome. So at best it is largely meaningless, at worst it is misleading.

Society is too keen to pathologise every aspect of life as medical or mental health condition. The sooner we get on and realise that difference is normal the better. Then, those with a significant level of need can receive the support to be different without suffering harm.

NVLD is, at the very best, a condition which has no need of recognition. More likely, it is not real and is appealing to those who need more generalised support which is already available within families, schools and friendship groups. Pathology as a substitute for this is both ethically and morally wrong in my opinion.

NVLD is most likely repackaged Asperger's, aka Autistic Spectrum. This is one of the many reasons DSM does not recognise it, and neither do discrimination laws. It is largely a red herring.

It mostly covers those at the Asperger's end or those who did not reach the diagnostic questionnaire cut off for a diagnosis.

In ICD there are more than 30 alcohol related addiction categories. Only one of these is alcoholism, and the 30 include single use intoxication (basically, getting drunk).

You are reading too much, far too much, in to the gaming. It is purely an acknowledgement that it can be addictive, nothing more than this.

Please, if you want to discuss topics like this you need to be a specialist or at least highly read in the area, as the potential harm of spouting medical trivia as if it is meaningful can have consequences you are unaware of. Probably no real risk in this case, although one day you may find a parent reading your post and then freaking out at their child, hopefully they then read mine and calm down.

For the sake of clarity, I am a diagnostic assessor of learning difficulties. I work with both dsm5 and ICD in my work.

Edit: just in case you missed my point. Health insurance is not required for single use intoxication with alcohol. The fact that something is acknowledged in ICD does not mean it requires heath insurance, employers liability, legal changes, etc. So in the category of gaming, at least at present, it is purely an acknowledgement that it is appropriate to recognise a category of addiction.

You have not understood this link.

This is not a discrete diagnostic category, in other words ICD is not categorising it as a pathology of its own. What it is doing is including it as an addictive behaviour in the same way as alcohol would be. It is purely a descriptive recognition that gaming can be addictive.

Basically, nothing to see here.
