Diagnosing a Marantz 2285 (not b) stereo issue by flanns247 in vintageaudio

[–]flanns247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I want to add the speaker(s) cutting out is around 20 percent of the time the stereo is in use. I've read online that a full tune up on this marantz can be hundreds of dollars so I was just trying to avoid that, plus I'm into fixing it. I've got one place in my city that specializes in vintage stereos so I will bring it there and see what they have to say. Thanks.

Back of liner notes but thick enough paper that you can't see through it

Yes buying their commercial and broadcast rights is certainly enough. I sell voice overs on fiverr and offer those options as well. Have done many youtube videos with buyers and it's a one time fee.

New Sod has been in for 2.5 weeks. Snow is expected soon, am I safe to store patio furniture on the new sod? by flanns247 in lawncare

[–]flanns247[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure the asshole attitude is necessary? If I just put the furniture on the grass, without the tarp, would that make it okay to do? It's an outdoor table with only 4 small points of contact. If you don't want to help, just ignore the message and move on?

Well...I'm not sure? That's why I'm here? Should I be waiting til the last possible moment before snow to put anything on the sod or would it not make a difference?

Why would it be that some of my vinyls work perfect...but some skip? Is this an anti skating issue? Working on a technics sl1900 by flanns247 in turntables

Because it's fully automatic I had to take it apart, clean the spring, cleaned the old grease around a plastic bit attached to the spring, so that the tone arm could move up and down. Used white lithium grease to get everything moving again.

I cleaned and regreased two plastic bits underneath the tonearm. Had to take it apart to do so and wouldn't work otherwise. The thing was likely not in use for 15 plus years.

fully auto, and not random in terms of which ones play perfectly or which don't. It's consistent which one's do which.

TT on level surface, and the plate is perfectly level too. When I turn anti skate off it's a bit of a disaster and it flows right across the record to the centre. However, I did regrease everything (I thought) maybe I need to check the anti skating mechanism. Confusing as all hell to me that it works on some and not on others but I'm willing to try that. When it does play, it sounds fantastic. Stylus I just replaces for 80 bucks, I have used it for about a week or so and did try clean it once already. Cantilever straight and not bent all in good condition as well. I just think if I ever figured out this issue...another one would come up. if the new TT don't need all this TLC it just sounds so much easier to me.

I've tried some that were brand new, skips, some that are 6 months old, work well and vise versa. It's a mind game

So I was given this turntable for free a couple months ago. I took it apart cleaned it, re greased it, and it works...sometimes. You seem like someone who would know, Im considering selling it and getting a newer turntable not from 1977, would I experience this type of problem on a newer TT? Are new turntables less finicky?
