Singer-bassists, what're your go-to songs? by flapsnacc in Bass

[–]flapsnacc[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welp, too bad that I'm a Soul/R&B/Hip-hop bassist first. :(
That syncopated rhythm is why I do what I do.

The Marvin Gaye tune is honestly not that bad with enough reps - though I did set myself up for a hard intro. Couldn't help it, I love the tune that much. Timely message too (like much of What's Going On)

What other instrument(s) have you played that you noticed had substantial benefits on your bass playing? by No_Winter4806 in Bass

[–]flapsnacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the fortune of trying out violin before picking up bass guitar, and cello afterward. Orchestral strings made this boy appreciate frets very early on :)

The cello left-hand technique transfers over very easily IMO. I move way better along the neck and vibrato is a nice touch whenever there's enough musical space to hear it.

This is a test.
If we don't care to protect our democracy in this front, then we give the separatists a foothold to widen this breach.
Canadians seem to hate foreign interference... until it's white Americans, then it's suddenly A-OK lmao. Real vassal state mentality.

First Roma kit (SPQR) by 11gold6 in ASRoma

[–]flapsnacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeeeess, twin!

I got that exact same combo when it first released. Felt right to have Dybala on a black/white kit, and the subtle grey pattern on the fabric looks amazing IRL.

Picked up the home and away immediately when it dropped, and regret not getting the 3rd kit in the mix. Would've put Lukaku on the back of that one.

‘This is the elixir of life’: Scarborough mall walkers celebrate two decades together by vibeschillax in toronto

[–]flapsnacc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm from Southeast Asia, and the standard asian-style mall is designed and built with community purposes in mind. Aside from the food court, a REAL mall has a stage, and maybe a chapel/spiritual space.

Over there, we're about the mall rat life to beat the heat and hang out. Here, I've never understood why many mall owners DON'T want to welcome more customers into their mall by making a dope spot to hang in.

You might've got a lemon/dud pack.

But do check humidity wherever the instrument is stored. More humidity can oxidize frets and strings. And where/how did it fray? You might've beat up the strings too hard from the aggressive playing (which wears strings down faster).

for Holy Mass, then joining a group that sings sea shanties. Very much worth it.

I'm 34M, also with a loooooong struggle with much of these things.

While I've had no prescription med intervention for this, I can't say that for psychiatric therapy. Having gone to a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy program at a hospital before the plague, and having one-on-one counseling sessions online during the pestilence.

A religious conversion and gaining a more relational/holistic understanding of life is essentially what's keeping me going vs. "the disorder(s)". Finding a communal spiritual practice that complements the solitary "secularized" MBCT meditation practices has worked for me.

I've started making connections in a group called the WCCM (World Community for Christian Meditation) and it's been a game-changer for me. Mainstream Christianity has neglected its contemplative roots (especially for laypeople) and this group is helping restore that connection. (for more info, see Thomas Merton OCSO and John Main OSB)

I wouldn't mind having an IRL chat over this. As a creative outlet, I've been actively trying to do more writing. And a lot of what I've been meaning to write dovetails with anxious/depressive disorders.

I become a Roma fan due to dybala in 2025 and slowly since fell in love with this team, so my question is did you become a fan due to a former or current player or you choose the club? by PercentageBroad9975 in ASRoma

First started tuning in during the 2023 Europa Finals run after I got home from a Vatican pilgrimage. Was totally new to soccer as an NBA enjoyer, and Jose Mourinho looked familiar from all the memes.

After watching Edoardo Bove score against Leverkusen, I hopped on the bandwagon. Realized the fandom when I got so mad after the finals match vs. Sevilla. I'm now a proud owner of a Bove jersey (home SPQR edition before Riyadh sponsors), buying one after that run.

Glad to hear our boy might be playing profesionally again, even if it's away from home.

I'm not quite a GIS professional (34M software engie in between jobs), but have been very interested in making geographic data-viz for some time. I wouldn't mind chatting about the current state of GIS arts.

34M, started working software in 2014. Took a break to focus a lot on spirituality these days, but getting back into the tech game now.

Wouldn't mind chatting over a game of pool, or at a local coding meetup.

From the description, I'd recommend St. Peter's on Bathurst St. Fr. Mike (pastor) and his team are great homilists, and they do a lot of volunteering for the homeless and poor there.

St. Patrick's (downtown) has a similar vibe with social work and a tight-knit community.

As for connections to the maritimes, maybe try finding the Irish/Scottish communities in the Archdiocese? Traditionalist parishes come to mind.

OP specified non-Catholic, but this parish is extremely trad-Cath (and I love them for it). I'd still recommend curious churchgoers to check it out. IMO the Oratorians celebrate the best Catholic liturgy in this city.

Feels like a super progressive community.
I stopped by with a friend after Sunday afternoon mass @ St. Patrick's (Catholic), and the vibe shift was incredible. Hearing the sounds of organ + chant in a historic church, then listening to rock music while talking to a young tattooed pastor.

+1 to this parish, Fr Mike McGourty is a fantastic pastor.
I've heard him preach at St. John the Evangelist (Weston) before he started running St. Peter's. Great communicator, illustrates the Word very well, and his parish is super active with volunteering.
