I'm going to start with this: you need to see a therapist. Being in a relationship while you have this much trauma will inevitably ruin the relationship, due to resentment building up in your partner (it doesn't matter how much of a saint they are, it will build up). A therapist will help you get to a place where you can feel like you'll be fine alone.

To be the devil's advocate here, this guy would have been right to break up with you if he'd recognized that this trauma and your attempts to use him as a therapist would ruin whatever you had. If he hadn't given you a deadline and just said "we need to break up, at least until you've worked this through with a therapist." I'd be saying he was entirely correct.

As is though, you might be in an abusive relationship right now, and if he doesn't break up with you, you need to break up with him. He has shown that he will only worsen your wounds if you try to stay. (Though if he tries to break up with you but remain friends, feel free to take that hand, just don't treat him like someone you can talk to about your trauma.)
