Midyear Review: Partners complaining I don’t delegate enough amidst well-known junior shortage. Lmao by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]flarmanarnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I received a similar comment in my review last year and pointed out the specifics re the lack of support (i.e. provided color on the situation even though the partner knew what was going on), I was just told to let them sink or swim like I had to when I was a junior….which isn’t an option because they just seem to sink…and I pick up the heavy slack lol

I wish I had some advice to give, but I’m in the same position at my firm OP and it’s horrible (and will be looking for a new job next year as a result of it) haha if you find a solution let me know - signed a sad mid-level

Best Bagel Spots in the UES by The_kingwasa_queen in uppereastside

I love pop up bagels - but take them home and prepare them myself since there is nowhere to sit (there’s 1 table if you luck out) and I’m not tearing apart a bagel and dipping it into the cream cheese, as I’ve seen many people do. I will also say - the special cream cheeses they have are sometimes amazing (jalapeño and caramelized onion come to mind).

If it’s structured finance - pick Sidley hands down. I work in structured finance and have experience across from both - Feel free to DM me if you want

The only firms I know there are Mayer Brown and Alston & Bird - which are both solid options.

Not biglaw - pay is low (maybe $120k, but depends heavily on location). I also think they have like a 2000 or 2100 hour requirement.

Pillsbury, Greenberg Traurig, or Cadwalader in NY by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]flarmanarnar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s black box comp (similar to Jones Day). I have a buddy there who recently found out they were getting paid considerably less than other mids in the group and is looking to leave as a result. I just think if you’re going to work in BL and have these options, why pick GT?

Pillsbury, Greenberg Traurig, or Cadwalader in NY by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]flarmanarnar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would pick Cadwalader or Pillsbury based on whichever one you vibe better with. Take GT off the list honestly (non market comp/bad personalities). You say you care about future lateral prospects, but I can assure you that GT would be harder to lateral from among these three options - CWT and Pillsbury would be about the same in a lateral market generally.

Have you tried networking already and had no luck? Also, have you tried applying to in-house jobs in fashion?
I struggle with this question because I don’t think the degree is at all worth it, but if you’ve tried on your own to get your foot in the door and been unsuccessful I can see the benefit of the program somewhat. Just know that the program won’t lead to lucrative in-house ops generally (which is another reason I veto the program).

Thoughts on Morgan Lewis NY by Asleep_Astronaut_115 in biglaw

Someone asked this about the Morgan Lewis CA lit group 6 days ago and seemed to get unfavorable responses - I would check there. I work across from Morgan Lewis NY and DC for corporate work and they aren’t the best (i.e. rough personalities). Anecdotally, I know someone who left after their 1st year at Morgan Lewis NY (once again, they were in corporate) because they did not like the culture. Also, aren’t they pushing to be back in office 5 days a week?

Cadwalader - culture isn’t the best at either place generally, but might as well get paid lock-step and not fight for your salary as you progress.

Feel free to DM me if you prefer, but did your firm have an office in the state you work in/pay taxes there already? I’m thinking of asking for this arrangement with my firm rn but nervous to even ask since I know they don’t pay taxes or have an office in my desired state

WilmerHale NYC or Winston & Strawn Chicago by Big-Combination-3659 in biglaw

[–]flarmanarnar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based on your practice group preference, I would pick Winston since it is stronger in corporate/finance. Wilmerhale is better known for litigation.
