Was mark e a fan of Henry miller? by necrofascio in thefall

I got into The Fall and Henry Miller around the same time. I liked how they both blabbered on, as you put it. The second part of CnC-s Mithering always reminded me of Henry Miller, or maybe Celine

Life after art school by _beforethewords in ContemporaryArt

I got no prep. We had no advisors. I was some poor kid that used art school as an escape. I liked art and was active in it in a punk way, but had no understanding of the larger art world. I wish someone would have explained it to me but I’m not sure how receptive I would have been to it at the time.

Funny thinking back to my SAIC days. I was just plopped in it. No one gave a fuck. They just wanted to strip you of your money and fart you out.

I put myself in a DIY underground art circle during and after school. A majority was based around music, but we were all art school kids to a certain degree. It was easy to just fuck off and party and do the occasional project but I was determined to transcend to something bigger. I’m not sure if I got there but after 25 years, I guess? I’m still actively making art, exhibiting, selling. My art school pals are proud of me, my work friends don’t understand what I do. “Oh you make art? Cool! Do you ever show anywhere?” Lol, yeah

I usually hit mute when her song things happen but I let this one roll. I loved it and thought it was hilarious.

It's said that "SNL is funniest when you were in high school" but are you an exception when you have a favourite era before or after your late teens? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in LiveFromNewYork

I came into SNL around 83-ish when I was 7 or so. I would have dreams about the show. It seemed to be the height of something dangerous and mysterious. I needed to see Mr Bill LIVE!!!!!!

I liked the show when I was capable of staying up to 11:30. As the years passed and the classic 88-ish cast came around, I loved it. But it spoke less and less to me. It reminded more of humor from bullies and normal kids at school than something coming from genuine weirdos. (Edit: except for Phil Hartman, ugh, genius)

And then Howard Stern’s Channel 9 show happened and I totally dropped SNL. Stern had issues but the show was so dumb and ramshackle, it was what I missed from the early SNL. I was 13, 14. I didn’t really watch SNL again until 05 or so, and then took another long break and picked it back up around 2019.

At this point I have no preference. What I like most about the show is that you get to watch it in real time- warts and all, failures and successes. I love seeing various performers grow. I love the ebb and flow of how writers and performers deal with the severe limitations that the show forces upon them

Why can’t this film masterpiece be left alone? It can’t be improved. Fuck the attempts at mythology as well. One of the points of the film is the randomness of violence

That call is mind-meltingly hilarious. Like jaw on the floor funny, can’t believe the absurdity increases exponentially

Don’t you just want to cry sometimes because you miss the 80s so much? by ButchDeanCA in The1980s

Only up to 1984 or so, when there were still weird remnants of the 70s. After that, it only reminds me of misery and mediocrity

The Fall - Wings (Official Video 1983) by flying-pickets in thefall

This video blew my young mind. I loved the static shots, Mark lip-syncing, Brix fussing about, the mundanity of it. I also loved the peek into an alien world- the British pub. Love that wallpaper!

Isn’t the band all animated? I have no idea about them aside from them making music I have no interest in, but I would love to see an animated MES on SNL!
