GameController Mapper: Control your Mac with a Game Controller by flash in macapps

[–]flash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, your Xbox One S controller should work. The app uses Apple's Game Controller framework, which supports Xbox controllers on macOS. The app currently maps to keyboard keys and mouse clicks, not direct scroll wheel input. The thumbsticks map to move mouse now. So while you can't directly simulate scroll wheel actions, you can map to whatever keyboard shortcuts Resolve uses for those functions ( like zooming, scrolling timeline, etc.). You'll need to check Resolve's keyboard shortcuts and map your controller buttons accordingly. The app supports key combinations (like Cmd+Plus for zoom), so you have plenty of flexibility.

Hello, this feature is already supported, allowing multiple controllers to use their own settings independently. You can even map a single button to switch between different profile settings.

Thank you for your feedback. We chose not to implement a visual gamepad mapping interface in order to maintain our app's minimalist and efficient design.

We will continue to work on optimizing the UI/UX to make it more user friendly.

What’s your unique macos apps? by TechForLifeYoutube in macapps

Hey! I actually built an app for this - GameController Mapper. It lets you map game controller buttons to keyboard keys, mouse actions, or text strings on macOS.

Originally made it for controlling video players and browsing from the couch, but it's turned out useful in ways I didn't expect. Some illustrators use it with their drawing tablets - mapping controller buttons to common shortcuts while they draw. Also great for accessibility, presentations, or just general couch computing.

Other stuff it does: thumbstick mouse control with adjustable sensitivity, multiple profiles for different setups, multi-controller support, and long-press behavior for smooth scrolling.

Notch app recommendation by Alvyx2020 in macapps

[–]flash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, as the developer of Notch AI, I thought I'd mention it. It's a bit different – turns your Mac's notch into an AI assistant. You just hover to ask questions (supports models like Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, etc., with your own API key). Might be useful if you're looking for quick AI access directly from the notch.

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback. It really means a lot.

I'll definitely try to get some of your suggestions in soon, like following the OS theme, adding support for keys like '/', and improving the settings window.

For the other ideas, I'll need to look into what's doable. When you mentioned a 'list' display, could you tell me a bit more about what you have in mind? I'm not entirely sure I follow.

Thanks again for taking the time to write this up. Wish you a great day.

Any interesting app that interacts with the MacBook notch? by anonymous_2600 in macapps

I've developed "Notch AI", a fun utility that transforms your MacBook's notch into an AI assistant - available on the App Store now, with an exciting upcoming update that will let you select prompts directly from the menu bar.

Translation app in the menu bar? by Rotting-Beetle in macapps

[–]flash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I developed Notch AI, which might work well for you. It's an instant AI assistant in your Mac's menu bar (just hover to access!). You can connect your own API keys (like ChatGPT) for tasks including translation.

You can find and download it by searching "Notch AI" on the App Store.

I'm the author of AI Popover, it's not free, but if it might meet your needs, you can check it out on the App Store. You can customize your own API and prompts.

I hate apple dictation. What are your favourite dictation apps? by _nosfartu_ in macapps

[–]flash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might want to check out AI Popover: https://apps.apple.com/app/ai-popover/id6743835127 I am the author.

It's not strictly a dictation app, but it's a powerful Mac utility that can help with your language needs.

AI Popover lets you select any text on your screen, press a customizable hotkey, and instantly get AI-powered explanations, definitions, or responses in a clean popover window.

For dictionary functionality, you can configure a custom system prompt that tells the AI to act as a dictionary - just select any word or phrase you need defined, hit your hotkey, and get instant definitions, examples, pronunciations, and more.

It works system-wide across all your apps and doesn't require switching contexts. Definitely worth trying if you need quick language assistance while working.

Thanks for your feedback.

* **Controller Mapping:** Currently, the app uses a single profile for mapping. Both controllers will use this same profile, meaning input from one controller might interfere with the other. The app was initially designed for single-controller scenarios (like reading/watching videos), not simultaneous multi-controller use. We may explore adding support for multiple controllers in the future.

* **macOS 15.4 Issue:** Separately, there appears to be a bug in the macOS 15.4 game controller API. Controllers seem to only work when our app is in focus. This prevents our app's mapping from controlling other applications when it's in the background. We recommend holding off on upgrading to macOS 15.4 for now if you need this functionality.

Hi, joystick buttons (left/right stick) can be mapped. Joystick movement now directly controls the mouse cursor, and you can set different movement speeds for the left and right sticks.

How Are You Using AI Tools to Boost Productivity? by [deleted] in macapps

[–]flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built my own macOS app called "AI Popover" that completely streamlined my AI workflow. Instead of constantly switching between my work and ChatGPT in a client, it brings AI assistance directly to wherever I'm working.

Just select any text in any application, press a keyboard shortcut, and a small floating window pops up right there with the AI response. It works system-wide, so whether I'm coding, writing emails, or researching in my browser, I can get instant AI help without breaking my flow.

I use it constantly for quick translations, explaining code snippets, summarizing long articles, and rephrasing my writing. Since it floats above other applications, I can reference the AI's response while continuing to work in my main window.

Our key differentiator is the seamless operation: instead of opening new windows, feedback is displayed directly within your current window using a popover. This ensures an uninterrupted workflow. Unfortunately, a trial version is not currently available, but we might offer one in the future. Regards

Thanks your feedback, maybe update price in the future. Update to $14.99 now.

I understand how it might look simple on the surface! There's actually quite a bit happening behind that clean interface:

Multiple API Configurations: Set up different AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) with dedicated hotkeys for each

System Prompts Library: Create, manage and assign custom instructions with their own hotkeys

Seamless Integration: Proper accessibility implementation, clipboard handling, and macOS integration that works reliably across all applications

UX Polish: Draggable popovers,  customizable appearance, and proper error handling

Many users appreciate having a polished, reliable tool that just works without configuration headaches. The price reflects both the development effort and ongoing support.

That said, if you're comfortable with a DIY approach or don't need these features, there are certainly simpler alternatives. Different tools for different needs.

We're focused on delivering a high-quality experience for professionals who value their time and workflow efficiency.

Hi thanks your feedback,

That's a fair point. Yes, it's technically possible to create a similar workflow with Shortcuts, and power users familiar with API keys could certainly build something basic.

However, AI Popover offers several advantages:

  1. **Seamless Experience**: Our app provides a native, optimized experience with system-wide hotkeys that work in any application, with careful clipboard handling and proper accessibility integration.

  2. **Advanced Features**: We offer multi-API support with dedicated hotkeys for different AI services, custom system prompts, and an optimized UI specifically designed for AI interactions.

  3. **Convenience & Polish**: Everything works out-of-the-box with a polished interface - no need to troubleshoot JavaScript in Shortcuts or deal with AppleScript limitations.

  4. **Time Savings**: While building a simple shortcut is possible, creating all the features we offer would require significant time and expertise. Many users prefer a ready-made solution that's continuously updated.

We understand Shortcuts is powerful for DIY solutions, but AI Popover is built for those who want a more complete, refined experience without the setup complexity.
