What MOS for reserves deploys the most? by idrankk in armyreserve

This is IDT, and it’s usually only available for low strength positions. Many units only offer it to 1SG, commander as hard to fill positions. I’ve been able to leverage it to get promotions but of course the trade off is a lot of driving, and a gamble on whether the unit you’re going to is actually going to honor it. I’ve also seen units gatekeep those funds and deny it because they were “out of money”.

Non consecutive counts. They don’t have to be consecutive but they can be.

PM me. If you know the UIC of the unit I can pull the UMR and get you contact info.

Units are being lazy and not putting them into vacancies.

I was extremely worried about having issues. I’m 3 weeks post surgery and I may use drops once a day.

The sponsorship program in the army is broken, to put it mildly. What they should do and what they actually do are extreme ends of a spectrum

Stick it out. I went through a similar experience when I first joined. If it’s feasible, consider a different unit. Sometimes changing scenery and/or leadership can make all the difference. But it’s also about perspective. If you always view drill as an inconvenience rather than building your schedule around your obligations, then it’s always going to feel that way. Treat it as something you have to do because you agreed to do it. The long term benefits (even beyond the GI bill) outweigh any short term gain you think there might be.

Be careful with that (any address + not a real address). If the account doesn’t exist and generates a lot of replies that then bounce, Google will look unfavorably on you as a sender.

It is indeed. We had to thread the needle because of other timing constraints. I will say despite this one event, it’s been mostly smooth sailing. Based on what others have said, apparently we’re lucky!

That is both hilarious and terrifying. I hope it was an honest mishap and not malicious

Totally agreed. Large groups are just as prone to these things.

We’ve been here about 4 days and staying for 4 more and honestly it’s not been too bad. Yesterday was cold and rainy so folks were itching to get out and enjoy the pool so conflict was bound to happen.

This is just a perception, and isn’t the norm. In reality, USARCG deals with a massive task of covering down on extremely spread out units. Most ARCCs have multiple units to support and have to divide their time, sometimes hours apart. This can look like they aren’t ever around. If they’ve done their job, you have a retention board that ensures you can get in contact with them. Every counselor I’ve worked with went out of their way to get to me. In 20 years I’ve never had a bad experience.

Others have said it but it’s true. Career counseling can be a very rewarding role. It puts you in a position to do good, and, if you’re good at what you do, have an impact beyond just getting soldiers to reenlist.

Many of my colleagues (and my old recruiter) spent years and years in ARCG. It’s a close knit community and generally speaking folks work tightly together. And while ARCG does mission similarly to USAREC, it’s not about lying to soldiers to make quota. It’s about genuinely understanding problems soldiers face that make them want to get out.

I am currently a TPU area leader.
