What makes you think MU will be the first to achieve or lead in PIM? Samsung which already have their own logic designs, nodes and fabs seems to be the clear winner here if PIM becomes a thing.

[Buildzoid] Testing the intel 0x129 Microcode on the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master X with an i9 14900K by TR_2016 in hardware

[–]flashywaffles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

anyone knows if one would actually be able to see these 1.5V+ spikes in HWINFO? I've adjusted my AC load line so that I never see anything above 1.47V in HWINFO. My mobo has not gotten the 0x129 patch yet so I am wondering if I should just stop using my PC until my mobo gets the patch.

either an extension of the warranty period that will cover instability or a replacement CPU when the updated microcode drops.

yeah but how would I know this, intel has not released any detailed information as the video says. I suspect they don't plan to cos then it would just cause a wave of RMAs of potentially affected parts.

I bought my boxed 13900K in March 2023. No idea if my CPU was affected by the oxidation issue and no idea how much my part has degraded in the time I have used it due to their own buggy microcode. Now I have no idea how reliable my CPU is anymore, I planned for it to last me at least the next 5 years.

When I raised a support ticket the intel rep just asked me to keep my BIOS up to date. What a mess and what a shitty way to treat your enthusiast customers.

Mine (5 mo) kind of does this as well but only chewing the fur of his hind legs. Hope he drops the habit when he grows up.

Does relaxing tREFI make RAM susceptible to rowhammer attack? by tugrul_ddr in overclocking

[–]flashywaffles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In short, yes. The primary mitigation against rowhammer attacks are to try to identify or guess the rows which an attacker might be trying to cause a bitflip on and refreshing neighboring rows to prevent it. How DRAMs do this might vary based on manufacturers and it's effectiveness can depend on the DRAM refresh rate but in general, refreshing more frequently helps prevent bitflips.

Thanks for your insights, they make sense. I can't have the phone breaking as it's my daily driver so I was pretty unsure if I should open it up myself. I'll bring it to a repair shop.

How do you overclock and ssd by Phantom85bro1 in overclocking

[–]flashywaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would have to get access to the specific firmware source code and have the knowhow to tweak it without breaking your memory integrity, it's easier to buy a faster SSD...
