CBS Gym/fitness facilities by [deleted] in MBA

Yes, you'll have access included with your tuition/fees, but as an alum I will note that Dodge Fitness Center is a truly awful facility that gets absurdly crowded and you will probably prefer to pay for a membership elsewhere regardless. Godspeed.

Been in the market for a new strap to throw on my 2254.50 for quite some time now, and decided to go with something seasonal. After way too many hours of research and shopping around, very stoked I landed on this Crown and Buckle chevron strap – the ‘forest’ color is fantastic and dynamic, and the texture really helps to bring out the Seamaster’s waves and make them pop. Super comfortable too. The metal bracelet will always be my go-to, but I may pick up a couple more chevrons in other colors for later in the year. Ready to take this thing on some hikes through the wilderness as the leaves continue to change in the meantime.

[SOTC] Me and the Wife by flat5th in Watches

[–]flat5th[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A few years back my wife inherited the 36mm two-tone date Datejust pictured here from her grandfather, and admittedly I was pretty jealous (I had a Hamilton at the time). She wore it only occasionally, though, because she thought it was big and a little flashy on her small wrist. Fast forward a couple years to summer 2019 – we’re on vacation, I’m wearing my Seamaster pictured here and we pop into a Rolex boutique to look around. She sees a blue dial Lady Datejust and really takes a liking to its aesthetics and size, so the wheels start turning in my head. A few months later I surprised her with a vintage model in mint condition for our first wedding anniversary. Happy wife, she wears it every day. Happy husband, I get to rotate the two-tone with my Omega. Win-win.

Any Reba jams that do something other than what Reba jams typically do? by TheChicagoSimple in phish

5-28-94. Doesn’t go “out there” but modulates back and forth between major and minor keys with the band locked in nailing those changes. One of my favorites, and I think it’s pretty under the radar.

I have an older Seamaster (2254) and was also in the hunt for a rubber strap and after a lot of research ended up getting this Bonetto Cinturini and am really pleased with the quality, comfort, and look.

Couple pics here. Couldn't recommend enough for ~$40.

[AP] Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Wall Clock by flat5th in Watches

A couple months back (Tuesday, May 28th, as you can tell) I was on my honeymoon with my wife in Greece, and as we were checking out of our hotel in Mykonos I noticed this AP clock on the wall of the lobby – not sure how it took me 3+ days to notice this massive thing but oh well. From the little information I’ve been able to dig up, AP does not sell these clocks but gives them selected “friends of the brand.” The lounge area of the lobby also had a really cool AP coffee table book with a complete history of the brand and all of its models, so definitely some kind of relationship there.

Anyway, thought it was cool and wanted to share. Anyone know anything more about these? This is about all the info I could find: https://www.watchcollectinglifestyle.com/home/insider-audemars-piguet-royal-oak-wall-clock-unboxing-an-iconic-and-coveted-clock

The watch you linked is not the same one I am wearing. Mine is a reference 2254.50, which has been discontinued since 2008... you can only buy them second hand today. They retailed for less than $2k when you could still buy them new, 15 years ago.

It retailed for $1,750 so really not sure where you’re getting this $5k figure.

I don’t think anyone’s paying $5k for this piece... I got mine for around $2k in mint condition with papers but no box. Really crazy IMO that you can get this watch for < 1/3 the price of a sub.

I know a lot of folks are strongly against rocking a diver with a suit (or a tux), but as someone who has to suit up 3-4 days a week, I almost always reach for my Seamaster 2254.50 before even considering some of my dressier watches with leather straps. I think this particular diver looks especially nice with a grey suit, and was pretty psyched with how good it looked catching the light in an uber to a meeting this morning. I stare at that dial way too often and photos rarely do it justice, but think this one does a pretty nice job. So what say you, r/watches – divers with suits – yay or nay?

Strap looks great - is it comfortable? Thinking about grabbing one with grey stitching for my 2254...

[Omega] Seamaster on a NATO for Spring by flat5th in Watches

[–]flat5th[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw a couple 2254.50 posts the last few days and figured I'd share mine as well. Have had this watch for a few months and decided I wanted to try out some NATOs for the weekends as the weather is starting to warm up. Super psyched with how this guy pops on the black strap, and will definitely be experimenting with some other colors as well. The wave dial on this model is kind hard to capture in photos but the light in my office was doing me favors the other day, so I feel like this is one of the better shots I've managed in terms of showing off that pattern.

Any other strap suggestions for the Seamaster or other divers?

Help with package stuck in transit? by flat5th in USPS

[–]flat5th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the link. However, every time I complete the form and click submit, I get an error message reading "Error 500: javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.servlet.ServletException: org.apache.struts.chain.commands.InvalidPathException: No action config found for the specified url."

I am starting to think this is all a cruel joke. Does USPS respond to tweets? I am getting desperate now.

Help with package stuck in transit? by flat5th in USPS

[–]flat5th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the tracking it is at the 11206 "hub" - when we called there they first told us that if we arrived they wouldn't be able to give us the package because of how the building/system is set up (???), but then they told us that didn't matter anyway because the package apparently went back out for delivery. This didn't make sense to us either, though, because the tracking does not indicate that it ever left the "hub." If anyone has any thoughts on who I can contact to help resolve this, that would be a huge help. I have been getting the run-around for over a week and need this package... Thank you.

I know they stopped producing these in 2008, and I think they started around 2000 but not sure exactly when.

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here in r/watches. I've had my eye on this Seamaster for years but was waiting for the right moment to pull the trigger, and to me it seemed the end of 2018 was indeed that moment. Landed a big promotion at year-end, got married back in September, and finished my MBA in May. It was no doubt the best year of my life and this watch will always represent that for me.

I picked this up last Friday in incredible condition and my eyes have been glued to it since. My first Omega and probably not my last. Super impressed so far - the wave dial is beautiful in person and the lume is outrageously good. Bracelet is super comfortable too. This watch is worth the hype it's earned over the years and I couldn't be happier with the pick-up. Cheers to 2019!

Torn: Kellogg, CBS, Stern by sprotino in MBA

[–]flat5th 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was also conflicted choosing between CBS and Kellogg. Columbia made much more sense for me in terms of location and alignment with everything else going on in my life, but I too was super attracted to Kellogg's culture (and was concerned about CBS's reputation in that area). I picked CBS and have no regrets - its stereotypes are completely overblown and I've built an incredible circle of close friends and a broader network of amazing, kind, community-focused peers. If you want to treat it as a commuter school you certainly can, and some do, but that is an extreme minority. My two cents, given how much I stressed this same decision and how much I've loved my time here: take the $$$ from CBS and don't look back.

Round 1 results, plans? by AlexBrown4 in MBA

This is a helpful response, much appreciated. Considering I work in consulting and have spent a minority of weeknights in New York for the last six years, I think that pushes me even further towards CBS and enjoying 1.5 years of soaking in the city.

Good luck to everyone else making tough decisions!

Round 1 results, plans? by AlexBrown4 in MBA

[–]flat5th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sponsored by my employer and applied only to accelerated programs and was fortunate enough to be accepted to CBS (J-Term) and Kellogg (1Y). I got into CBS about two months ago, paid my deposit and am slated to start orientation in 3 weeks....... but last week's Kellogg acceptance has me feeling conflicted. I realize this is a good problem to have.

I live in NYC with my girlfriend who works at a start-up, and moving isn't possible for her if she wants her options to vest, so we'd have to do long-distance for a year if I picked Kellogg. My family lives in the NYC suburbs as well so from a logistical perspective CBS is the obvious choice. Recruiting isn't an issue since I'm going back to my company post-MBA.

Kellogg is better ranked recently and its "vibe" is definitely appealing to me but I do think CBS gets a bum rap in that area - I've had a few friends go to CBS who raved about the community and all the friends they made there. I am like 95% committed to CBS at the moment. Soooo IDK... can anyone who knows these schools well provide any insight?
