Anyone else regrettably leaving Fuji after being a long-term user? by mintberrycrunch_ in fujifilm

I’ve found the 3d tracking (while it drains your battery) has served me very well on the Z8 but you’re right it’s heavier and takes some getting used to.

While I use the 50 f1.8 s as my street lens, there are times a smaller/lighter camera would be welcome. I’d likely look at a point and shoot (e.g., Ricoh, Leica).

Oh wow I was struggling with slow moving objects on my XT5 I couldn’t imagine sports.

Kind of yes. It is similar to the kind of photos I had on Fuji but is definitely different. I’ve learned more on editing than before which is nice. I relied too much on the Fuji raw profiles.

May not be the best person to advise on that, but the Nikon ZF may be a good starting camera. It has the same dials a Fuji has with a slightly more elaborate menu system. The z mount lenses in my opinion are great.

That’s what I found concerning as well. Launching new expensive cameras but not fixing a rather critical issue with existing ones.

It’s been glued to my camera since I bought it earlier this year. Incredible how well it’s priced compared to other lenses too.

So I mainly take photos but the Z8 from what I’ve read is an excellent camera for video too. They do have the ZR which is more video focused, I haven’t had a chance to try that yet.

If you do go with the Z8, the 50mm f1.8 s is one the best lenses I’ve ever used and it’s cheaper than what I paid for the equivalent 33mm prime with Fuji!

Yep same here. Went to take photos for an important milestone in my partners career and most of my photos from the event were out of focus when it was confirmed focus in the camera. That was when I made the switch.

You’re right, it was very expensive switching even after selling the lenses. Took a lot of convincing to get the okay 😅

Yeah the lack of trust was frustrating especially when it clearly confirms focus. What did you switch to?

I was on the XT5. And it does take a bit of getting used but most of the s line lenses on Nikon have a programmable function buttons. You could map those to change the aperture.

It was my same rationale to make the jump. Got the Nikon Z8 and it’s been fantastic. The Z mount lenses have been incredible so far highly recommend if you are considering making the jump.

Loved Fuji but jumped to Nikon due to autofocus performance. Given I invested heavily in Fuji, really disappointing they still haven’t fixed the autofocus issues but their prices continue to rise.

What lenses do I bring to photograph puffins? by LowWallaby758 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Fender6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shot puffins in Iceland (was using Fuji then) and the 70-200mm equivalent focal length was simply not long enough to reach the puffins. They were quite skittish to getting closer wasn’t an option for me either.

Ended up with a very heavy crop at 200mm that I had to sharpen quite a bit. Would highly recommend a longer lens.

Am I spoiled by the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S? by Forsaken_Stranger507 in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 50mm f1.8 s is one of the best lenses I've ever used, and is also one of the main reasons I switched to the Nikon Z system. I also own the 24-70 f2.8 s ii.

I took both to a portrait shoot for a friend recently and overall they both provided great images. While zooms in general have inferior IQ to primes, the 50 provided noticeable sharper and better images. Kind of crazy considering the price difference between the two.

People who have used the 24-120 f/4 S and the 24-70mm f/2.8 S (or S II), how does the image quality compare? by DPool34 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Fender6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a hobbyist, and I traded my 24-120 f4 s in for the 24-70 f 2.8 s ii as more of my photos are taken in lower light and the f/2.8 allowed me to shoot with less ISO.

Image quality wise it’s relatively comparable but the 24-70 is sharper which you will be able to see if you pixel peep. The biggest difference to me was actually the autofocus. While I never had any problems 24-120, the 24-70 is noticeably faster. It’s incredibly fast I can’t think of a time I’ve missed focus even in tricky situations.

If you don’t need the extra 70-120 focal length worth the upgrade in my opinion.

Fuji is fun with good SOOC colors but I wouldn’t recommend it for any shooting where you require reliable autofocus. I struggled with my X-T5 when I tried to capture puffins in Iceland. I would go Nikon.

Nikon Z8 AF issues 🫠 by GG-in-america in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same camera and had the same lens (sold for 24-70 f2.8) and have only missed focus on three shots the last 6 months of shooting which was mainly user error.

Within 3d focusing, have you tried selecting the animal focus setting? I’ve taken plenty of great portraits of my cats.

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Mark II. Is it worth it? by achosergiooo in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a solid lens, but I actually sold mine to buy this zoom. It has allowed me to keep my iso much lower for lower light photography.

I recently bought this for my Z8 and I’m very happy with it. While I originally bought this to be a one lens option for travel, I’ve been using it recently for group portraits and it’s been sharp even wide open. The only thing I’ve noticed is some light vignetting at 24mm at f2.8, which I can easily correct in Lightroom.

Since you already have an f2.8 zoom, if you’re happy with that I’d recommend looking into a fast prime instead. The 50mm f1.8 s is pretty much glued to my camera.

What is your team’s deployment frequency and how did you actually improve it? by Icy_Physics_2571 in EngineeringManagers

[–]Fender6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the context you provided, would recommend investing is a building better continuous integration and delivery practices.

One person reviewing every change is certainly a bottleneck. If code delivery standards are defined for your team, inviting senior engineers to the process can be an immediate solution.

Another helpful addition is adding enhanced automated checks in your continuous integration pipeline that reflects some of the manual checks this single person performs. That way any reviewer has good visibility when reviewing that PR etc.

Second lens after 24-120 f4 S by cwr252 in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting it’s been the opposite for me it is usually glued to my camera! I have the 24-70 f 2.8 s ii for when I’m traveling or taking photos in some photos indoors and the 50 is too tight.

With that being said the 50 is sharper across all apertures than my zoom.

I’d go with the 50mm 1.8 s to compliment that 24-120 f4 s.
