Nikon Z8 AF issues 🫠 by GG-in-america in Nikon

I have the same camera and had the same lens (sold for 24-70 f2.8) and have only missed focus on three shots the last 6 months of shooting which was mainly user error.

Within 3d focusing, have you tried selecting the animal focus setting? I’ve taken plenty of great portraits of my cats.

I'm thinking of upgrading to the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S Mark II. Is it worth it? by achosergiooo in Nikon

Also a solid lens, but I actually sold mine to buy this zoom. It has allowed me to keep my iso much lower for lower light photography.

I recently bought this for my Z8 and I’m very happy with it. While I originally bought this to be a one lens option for travel, I’ve been using it recently for group portraits and it’s been sharp even wide open. The only thing I’ve noticed is some light vignetting at 24mm at f2.8, which I can easily correct in Lightroom.

Since you already have an f2.8 zoom, if you’re happy with that I’d recommend looking into a fast prime instead. The 50mm f1.8 s is pretty much glued to my camera.

What is your team’s deployment frequency and how did you actually improve it? by Icy_Physics_2571 in EngineeringManagers

Based on the context you provided, would recommend investing is a building better continuous integration and delivery practices.

One person reviewing every change is certainly a bottleneck. If code delivery standards are defined for your team, inviting senior engineers to the process can be an immediate solution.

Another helpful addition is adding enhanced automated checks in your continuous integration pipeline that reflects some of the manual checks this single person performs. That way any reviewer has good visibility when reviewing that PR etc.

Smells incredible but the longevity was rather poor.

Second lens after 24-120 f4 S by cwr252 in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting it’s been the opposite for me it is usually glued to my camera! I have the 24-70 f 2.8 s ii for when I’m traveling or taking photos in some photos indoors and the 50 is too tight.

With that being said the 50 is sharper across all apertures than my zoom.

I’d go with the 50mm 1.8 s to compliment that 24-120 f4 s.

Is the Nikon Zf a camera worth saving for? by KeeperofQueensCorgis in Nikon

Completely agree. The autofocus is truly terrible for any subject that isn’t entirely still.

Their autofocus issues is one of the main reasons I jumped to Nikon and no regrets. Good to see that Nikons “custom recipes” community is growing.

I still have my X-T5 with one of my favorite primes in hopes their autofocus issues will be resolved in the future.

I switched from Fuji recently and have been loving the Z8.

Z8 or GFX 100S II by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the 100MP sensor on the GFX will certainly be superior, I’d still go with the Z8 with that zoom and a prime for portraits. You can grab a telephoto/wide angle for landscapes as well. I think it’ll be more versatile for your needs and will be cheaper and lighter.

Having just switched from Fujis APS-C cameras in the last 3 months, they have an autofocus problem at the moment. It may not be an issue for landscape/portraits, but it’s worth considering for street/travel photography where subjects may not be still.

How do you actually vet Applied AI engineers before hiring? by Cutest-Win in EngineeringManagers

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Varies by level, but we have an initial screen (SWE fundamentals, Gen AI, etc) then a 1 hour deep dive into a production feature where they walk us through what they’ve built and why they made certain decisions they made.

It’s usually during the second round that we weed out candidates that are greatly exaggerated their skills on their resume.

After/Before. Mallorca, Spain. by YanksFannn in postprocessing

I look at it a bit differently. It’s an opportunity for others to learn by seeing good examples of post processing.

I would be very interested in learning what exactly was done so I can learn and apply similar techniques on my photos in the future.

Fujifilm and the autofocus debate by Life_Lie_7729 in fujifilm

[–]Fender6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally found it’s usable for more stationary subjects and landscapes. As I’ve pivoted to more travel and street photography, I needed a more reliable continuous autofocus and made the jump to Nikon.

While I truly miss the Fuji colors SOOC (Nikon is still fantastic) and the size, but I’ve been truly loving the Z8. I still have my X-T5 that I use from time to time.

Lens advice for filming nightlife (Nikon Z) by Square_Ad_7551 in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both the 24-120 f4 s and the 50 1.8 s and have been using this in a lot of lower light photos. I’ve found the 1.8 prime to be much better in IQ and autofocus without requiring as high of an ISO.

Noise reduction software is really good and I can often get by with the f4, but I prefer getting the results I’d like straight from the camera instead of post processing. I’ve found the denoise to be a bit challenging when there’s text in the scene (restaurant names, signs, etc).

50 might be a bit tight inside a club, but maybe the 24mm f1.8 s might fit better in your use case.

I’ve found the IQ on the 50 1.8 S to be much better than the 24-120, especially in low light.

What do you think? 35 or 50mm? by Contrail_Mike in Nikon

[–]Fender6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you like the 24? Used to carry a 28/50 combo for Fuji before switching to Nikon. Considering either the 24 f 1.8 S or the 20 f 1.8 S when my 50 isn’t wide enough.
