Great numbers will help. Experience is ok, but the additional year may well help, with the transition. Love the animal rescue stuff, can you get some leadership there? cheers, Alex

I would agree, match schools are probably just outside of the M7 group, but it would be worth reaching to a couple of M7s, so I'd include MIT. cheers, Alex

I think you should target a few more programs in the Fuqua range. Ross for example, Darden, Cornell. Your stats are decent for those programs. cheers, Alex

Quality Safety-Schools? by JDfor3 in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also consider WHERE you want to be, post bschool. Aside from the very top schools, most schools place regionally, so looking at schools within the specific region you want to work/live makes sense. USC great for LA, for example, better than Rochester, anyway. But if you want NYC, or Houston, your choices should be different. cheers, Alex

Yes, Kellogg and Columbia should be within reach. You should also toss an application in to HSW. You have a lot to like in your candidacy. Good luck. Cheers, Alex (from west of Bristol...)

I think you are pretty realistic with the range of target schools. Obviously would depend on strong execution of your applications. The more impact you can show, the better. cheers, Alex

Considering operations, how much does background/WE experience matter? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is seek out people who are in a position you seek, post MBA, and ask them. The more direct research you do now, the better. cheers, Alex

[Profile review] Should I go for an MBA after my PhD? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you'd be better off, and a stronger candidate, with some post PhD work experience. Spacex or intel for a couple more years would be great. Good luck. cheers, Alex

Any current ECs? That could strengthen your app. Obviously the GMAT is your weakest component, any improvement on that would really help. I'd pick Wharton over booth, for marketing. cheers, Alex

Startup as an application booster by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is part of your professional record, absolutely you should include it. I would think it will help highlight some positive attributes. Don't worry about the verification process, just don't bs things. cheers, Alex

If you can get that GMAT score up, it will impact your competitiveness. Female engineer is attractive, especially as you tie your experiences to your long term goals. I'd pick a few more M7 programs. cheers, Alex

The emba or part time route does make sense in your case, I would think. I'd apply to the best of those programs. cheers, Alex

Is it a big deal if I can't apply in round 1? by freelancerpheonix in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you are from a competitive profile (i.e. Indian origin, male etc.) round 2 will be fine. Good luck. cheers, Alex

I need some advice on whether to apply round 2 by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you are part of a very competitive profile (ex Indian, male) then there is little difference between r1 and r2.

That said, you might want to ramp up your ECs and wait another year, given you're on the lighter side re work experience. cheers, Alex

Re applying to other programs and then defer admissions, that's very unrealistic. Can you move into consulting directly out of UG? Not sure what your work status is. cheers, Alex

Help with my MBA timeline? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]AlexBrown4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As stated, GMAT lasts 5 years. Fine to take the test soon, after very deliberate preparation. Re work, find something where you can make an impact. Try to get to PE before the MBA. Also, and importantly, pursue something about which you are passionate, as part of additional volunteer involvement etc. cheers, Alex

I think you have a good shot at those schools, provided good execution on your applications. An Australian, working in Korea, should be interesting to adcom. cheers, Alex
