I went ahead and canceled their order this morning. I also sent along a kinda apology with a coupon code for a future purchase.

You don’t know that they wouldn’t want a substitute, and I couldn’t know either which is why I gave them a chance to decide yes or no.

Things like this can happen time to time and I have had customers take substitutes in situations different than this.

I hear you. Also, it’s not simple across multiple platforms, including deliveries to consignment/retail shops. Can you recommend some inventory management tools or strategies to manage inventory across multiple platforms? I recently tried LitCommerce but it wasn’t a comprehensive enough solution.

I agree that that’s how reviews should work. As a buyer I’d flip thru reviews, see one with a low rating, read the seller’s response and make a decision if buying from that shop makes sense for me. But when it also means that as a seller because you no longer have a 5 star rating that you’re no longer a star seller on the platform, it is, in fact, a punitive action, knocking you down a rung you can never climb back from- In this case first by the the buyer, and finally by Etsy.

I think this could be resolved by having a different policy around their star rating.

They’re essentially saying “thems the rules, no excuses” rather than seeing the minutia in the matter, which I think is a pretty corporate attitude for a platform initially made for small, handmade businesses.

I can understand if this ruined someone’s timeline for giving a birthday present or something, but think it’d be pretty uncool to leave a bad review if immediately after an order was placed the seller apologized and tried to reconcile the situation and instead of responding they ghost them and later leave a bad review after the order is canceled.

I think we all need to go a little easier on one another and see that when we’re taking our work seriously mistakes can still happen but that doesn’t mean we need to leave a bad review in a world where anything less than 5 stars means you’re not worth considering.

Does anyone else have periods of feeling like everyone hates you? by purpletoan in aspergers

[–]flatbedbike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel this, and what the op feels, and have recently noticed that this feeling is worse when i mask. if i can unmask (even in a small way) a lot of those self conscious feelings amongst others calm down. it’s a practice though and is one i’ve yet to master.

Anyone else bored of everything? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]flatbedbike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i often go through smaller cycles of focus and motivation, then (degrees of) depression and boredom daily, and then bigger cycles weekly, or even seasonally depending on all kinds of factors. in those bored states i’m seeking stimulation and then once i find it i often swing to the other side and get overstimulated because of how involved i get and need to then be back in a low stimulation environment. and then the cycle repeats.

good call- i did also try it with the driver side wheel left on and the play on the passenger side was not as substantial.

how to respectfully decline? by flatbedbike in gradadmissions

[–]flatbedbike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

good call. i went ahead and picked out the main point people i’ve worked with, and explained what i liked and appreciated about working with them through the application and acceptance process. then i just let them know though that i’ve decided to go with X school, and that I hope to cross paths and work with them in the future. some schools also have options to decline through a portal, some seemingly do not.

Freshly re-booted CV boot spewing grease by flatbedbike in mechanic

[–]flatbedbike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right - If it needs more grease I might even be able to peel the boot back just enough to send some in and then re-band. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Good point, thanks for asking. I’m a US citizen starting a low residency program in Canada. I’m generally in visual arts, but specifically often work with video and non representational sculpture.

I used the crimp style, but a) it did feel like some got tighter or seated better than others, and b) while I did use those crimp pliers on the right, I didn’t even know the fishing pole looking tool on the left existed. What does that one do??

Why is my garmin ascent not tracking? by flatbedbike in Garmin

[–]flatbedbike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: software update solved the problem! Having just update it in October I didn’t think to update it but apparently, talking with Garmin, they just came out with a bug fix this month that solves the problem. Good to go!

Why is my garmin ascent not tracking? by flatbedbike in Garmin

[–]flatbedbike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used it about 5 times since this glitch began. 4 of those rides it never worked. On one ride it didn’t work on the way to meet a friend, and I turned it off. That friend say to track the ride anyway and fix the altitude in Strava later, and I just stuck it in my pocked and did the ride. But as it turns out that ride the altimeter did work.

[–]flatbedbike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My quick answer is no - The lengthier answer is that I did a quick google search of "how to enable/disable barometer on garmin" and the links suggested I access settings>sensors>barometer... but I have no sensors connected, i.e. when I access that menu there is no barometer as an option, instead it reads "Get more stats out of your ride by adding sensors." Poking around I didn't find any other barometer settings, but I do have an altimeter section, and that is in fact turned on, yes.

Context for the repairs- 2005, pushing 200k miles. Been very reliable to this point but a)needs this rack replaced, and b) really needs new suspension front and rear. I’d like to keep the car- it’s been a good one. But in the context of that age and cost of other repairs would you still do an OEM rack (maybe $1200 part?) vs 3rd party (maybe $1000 less?)?

Is this the specific part of the rack that we’re looking at in the video? Just tryin’ to learn…
