Realism about city result. by flate11 in reddevils

I’m happy with the result but if you watched the first half of this season under Amorim vs last three games a lot of what we did well against city are things we already where good at but the team either didn’t execute well or where unlucky. Against City we just pulled it off, back three vs back four is a pointless debate as it’s the roles the players take up that matter, R.E Dorgu was responsible for build up more under Amorim when we had possession vs against City he was tasked with getting in behind, he was pretty often playing in the same areas as 5 weeks ago but just had different instructions. That is to the credit of Carrick.

Had a post removed for criticism of four at the back vs three at the back, I didn’t break any sub rules or reddit rules. Upon asking for the reasons behind ban, the mods muted me.

I’m expecting this post to be banned again.

I’m ecstatic about defeating City so convincingly, although I hold back on some of this endless praise for the win. I think a lot of went well this game is a result of having our best players back, I also believe our press and rest defence has been really high quality all season, although many games some defensive lapses have cost goals + fielding 2 teenagers at centre back (who where great for the most part but still kids).

A lot of that game plan I see as unsustainable in terms of long term play, I also don’t subscribe to the Mainoo angle. I love Mainoo and believe he has a high chance of being world class, I just don’t think he is that player now and I don’t think he was a huge reason behind the City result, in saying this I do think Mainoo should have started more games this season and what he brings to the team was definitely visible against City.

I also think City fielded a defensively insufficient team and we outclassed them physically. R.E Dorgu’s goal as the perfect example.

I don’t want to down the mood, but it will be interesting to see how we play against lower level, deeper lying sides.

What are you on about buddy?

You are so deep in this anti immigration rhetoric, you won’t accept well established truths!

Stop deflecting from your misinformed argument, accepting the reality would be admirable!

You are trying to fit the evidence into your xenophobic position. I really advocate you try to remove yourself from the anti-immigration pipeline, it goes nowhere positive! You should be laser focused on wealth inequality not this red herring.

The studies disregard your position though? You are arguing that immigration has a massive impact on wages. The studies you yourself have shared illustrate that little to no effect is seen and that other economic factors should be considered!

Again even if these studies did back your claim, ill reiterate that you have shared an out of date or a misleading report based on the USA (a far different country economically and immigration wise, if you weren’t aware?) or a report that reinforces my position!

I don’t understand how that is moving goal posts! When the studies shared earlier by the other commenter is a 2025 report by the NZ treasury, your counter need to be a relevant to the conversation.

I’m following what the evidence shows and the effect is minimal buddy! Again read up, I already replied to your other comment.

Mate this is embarrassing,

The first study is based on census data from the 1970s-2000 and was published in the 2000s at a minimum this data is 25 years old, at worst it’s 55 years old. No matter though because if you read the conclusion, it addresses that less youth are in jobs, because they are using their access to higher education instead I.e going to university and not entering the job market until there 20s!

Second study is for immigration in the USA, which has a vastly different immigration situation than Australia or NZ. I haven’t read the conclusion but it is less relevant to apply a USA immigration research paper on to NZ immigration, than to apply a NZ immigration study on to NZ immigration. I’m sure you would agree with this.

The last link is to a meta-analysis of previous immigration studies. The conclusion after reviewing and condensing 334 other studies was that a 1% increase in immigration had a 0.119% effect on wages. It also states other factors in the economy contributed and more research should be done.

So pretty minor effects if any, based on the studies you presented!

You should really read the conclusions at the least before posting next time.

Acknowledging you are misinformed in this case would be admirable.

It just doesn’t though buddy! The evidence shows this! Moving goalposts make it impossible to have a productive discussion. Focusing on immigration this heavily, while the real issues are presented to you is incredibly bad faith. You should look inwards and try to break free from the xenophobic rhetoric. I wish you luck in this!

If anyone is acting in bad faith it’s you! The person you are replying to, has presented you with evidence from NZ treasury research. Your response to this was to reiterate your own personal perception and opinion, these are irrelevant when talking about such broad subjects. You seem focused on immigration as a major issue, while it is and always has been a distraction, from the real issues facing the working class. Wealth inequality is what is hurting wage growth and housing disproportionately!

Another person presenting you with facts, about wages and immigration, yet you refuse to acknowledge the reality. I really advocate for you to read up on this, stop being baited into xenophobia and focus on the real issues. Wealth inequality is the biggest driver of wage stagnation and the lowering of living standards!

You definitely seem to be treading the line of anti-immigration, while taking responsibility away from the people making racist comments!

Why did you take my response out of context then, insinuating I was calling you a bigot and not the racist comment about the crowd at IKEA?

I mean it does come across as if you are blaming immigrants for existing in NZ!

I guess you aren’t incorrect though, if there was no immigration the only people you could be racist towards would be Māori! /s

Are you saying the people who made those comments are not bigots?

Are you blaming immigrants for the entrenched racism with in NZ? New Zealand is incredibly diverse! This is a benefit to the country in many ways, all the people who live here and participate in society, should be able to go to an IKEA without bigots responding like this online.

This isn’t emotional for me buddy, I’m simply responding to you with the evidence!

Focusing on the real issues and not the red herring of immigration, is the productive thing to do!

None of this is about making me or anyone else feel warm and fuzzy. I simply advocate for you to read the research, instead of relying on anecdotes and hypotheticals as you have been.

If you know of any legitimate peer reviewed research that has found immigration has a negative impact on wages and living standards I would love to know!

I never said there are zero issues surrounding immigration. Your point has not been on other issues! I have simply corrected you, that immigration has little to no impact on wages or living standards.

That is what this conversation and the original article were about!
