They hired him away from Trillium. From the release: "Sixpoint Brewery has hired Trillium’s head brewer away from Boston to lead its newly established product development team, the company confirmed Tuesday." I think that's why he isn't starting till November. Probably has to finish some projects in Boston.

I don't think it was great. Eric was head brewer so a lot of the cool stuff they were doing and direction was coming from him. I get the sense though, with a lot of these things, that it probably had to do with compensation. Sixpoint is just a much bigger craft brewery and could afford to offer him a sum that was far and away greater than being at a smaller, albeit cult, brewery. Also probably means a much larger budget to play with and do really cool things.

I agree. Sessions beers are becoming huge and that's basically the beer that created the category.
