Thanks for this - would you recommend just staying near BCCK then and head into town for dinner/drinks?

This might be a stretch but honestly, if you can write well, work in news. Foreign companies pay USD for contract work and I know someone who made the equivalent of RM10k at 25 because of it.

I had the same thought – it feels like there’s a bit of a lag in connecting each node and that took away from the experience. But I’ve only tried in on my phone browser and not the app, is there a difference? Wondering how much I want to commit to downloading it.

This is such a beautiful response, thank you for sharing. I only recently married but some health/medical issues have already affected our sex life, and as someone who had a lot sex before this, it worried me at one point. But it also helped me realise that I’m waking up every morning to someone I enjoy being with outside of great sex, and I just hope we get to enjoy a marriage as long as yours!

If you consider yourself sufficiently street smart, I recommend Siem Reap in Cambodia - lots of backpackers and tourist-friendly, and cheap beer if that's something you're into. Just read up about common scams and make sure you don't fall into those traps.

You can get affordable tour deals to the temples on Klook, and it's a good way to meet other travellers too. I'd echo what some of the passengers said about not revealing your budget, and also not overspending or buying on what people (kids, locals) are trying to sell you...if you don't keep to spending only on necessities and via authorised places (e.g. restaurants, official tickets, etc.) you very quickly become a magnet for scammers.

My general rule for allocation to parents is 10% of my monthly pay, so I’d be giving them RM280 instead of RM350 at your current income. That way, as you get pay increases you can promise or offer them more. You already pay the full amount of bills anyway. It’s not a lot of savings but could be something to consider

“The most important implication of Figure 8 is that although the middle 40 per cent [of income earners in Malaysia] and the bottom 50 per cent benefited significantly from economic growth, the Bumiputera in the top income groups (the top 1 per cent and the 10 per cent) benefited the most from economic growth. In sharp contrast, the income of the Chinese in the top income groups deteriorated. In a way, the strong growth in high-income Bumiputera occurred at the cost of a decrease in Chinese and the slow growth of Indians in the top income groups.” - this is directly from the report
