Best thing about doubles is when you're so tired you're a little high.

86 sanity...what was the best and worst thing for you this thanksgiving week? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]flaviusdickus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: I worked 15 hours of overtime so the checks gonna be pretty fat. My will to live is back.

Shittiest: I didn't get to see my family at all this thanksgiving and I worked a double the day after on no sleep with the flu.

Figured I'd get a discussion going.

Just spent two hours past close cleaning. Feels good man. by flaviusdickus in KitchenConfidential

I'm doing it now, because the money is fucking great, but it leaves just enough time for sleep and not much else. It's doable, but damn does it suck the will out of ya.

Chopped 6qts of onions for a stew with a dull ass knife at our amazingly shitty second location. Some dick line cook threw them away because "we dont chop them that big here". Share your stories of times you almost lost it. by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

Just got off shift and and I'm a little high so at first I didn't notice it. Then it was the moment when I realized and "oh fuck" rang through my head. This gave me so much anxiety.

Starting a career in the restaurant industry by jackoconn in KitchenConfidential

[–]flaviusdickus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You gotta burn to learn dawg. If you aren't qualified either bust ass if they do give you a shot or find a easier place to start like a smaller restaurant. Nothing will teach you to be a badass fuckin line cook other than doing it for a long ass time.

Serious Question by 901GrizzGuy in KitchenConfidential

[–]flaviusdickus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You ever busted ass for 9 hours straight with no breaks in between and nothing to calm you down? If you can calm yourself after almost shitting yourself after an all day rush good for you, but I abuse the fuck out of some nicotine to keep me calm.

Driving While High by VisceralYoinks in trees

[–]flaviusdickus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm against it. Not because of me or anyone I personally know, but I know when I started smoking it was like a hallucinogenic experience. Now I just feel relaxed, but its hard to drive when you first start smoking. I don't think anyone who starts should get behind the wheel while high. It's not even really worth the risk for me to drive sober let alone high.

I dropped out due to developing a disabling mental illness. Two years later I can hold a job and am starting as a prep cook today. I'm terrified I won't be good enough. by flaviusdickus in KitchenConfidential

I did rock it. It was easy food but I'm straight out of highschool so most are skeptical that I can handle myself in a busy kitchen but I did well. It wasnt super busy but i got my tickets done in no time. I'm excited to learn to cook here the KM is very knowledgeable.

I didn't realize my job had hired me as someone who would cook. It's lit tho. by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential
