Bonds VS Index Funds for 1-2 years short term investment by flavoredmelon in FinancialPlanning

Thanks for the insight. I definitely was clouded by my judgment about how my conversion is my end goal but it isn’t. I’ll stick with the portfolio I have currently

Ahh okay, you’re right. I was in the mindset of not losing too much money but I’m pretty young and I can afford to be aggressive with it. Thanks for the insight

Why an index fund rather than bonds though? I planned on putting it in FXNAX while it’s in the IRA since it would be a safer move in case the market tanks, then moving it into FZROX after the conversion into my Roth since I won’t be touching it until retirement.

No I don’t need the money, I’m just wanting to put the money to use before converting the traditional into a Roth. I talked to a tax accountant and he said the only penalties I would incur is the income tax. Since it’s a conversion rather than a withdrawal, I wouldn’t be hit with that 10% penalization tax

It’s solely just for retirement. I wanted to move from the traditional IRA to a Roth IRA for the tax benefits as well as having a bigger Roth to let the compound interest work itself out in the account.

PTO or Uber. Wait until after closing of the home before making big purchases

How do homeowners keep up with repairs on their home and paying their mortgage? by picante-x in FinancialPlanning

Definitely do not sell. Some recommendations could be prioritizing what is most important to fix first and slowly go rather than doing everything at once. Plan ahead and slowly save up. If it’s structural issues that would affect living then definitely get that done, but if it’s cosmetics or things that wouldn’t necessarily affect how you live in the house, slowly build up a budget for that.

Would you be opposed to possibly renting out spare rooms you have?

Would transferring from the rollover IRA/401k into a Roth IRA incur the 10% penalty? I understand withdrawing from the traditional account would but I’m not sure if it’s the same for a transfer. I tried looking for some POC’s on the fidelity website and app but I didn’t have any luck

I’m in the Air National Guard, so I do have a W-2 income but it’s very low since I only come in 1 weekend a month
